Re: Any FM-related questions? Ask them here
The game runs fine on built in, or on board, cpu +apu/gpu setups. Its not graphics intensive. You just need some memory and a good processor. No actual graphics card is required.
I have this laptop now, and it runs great. Its just not powerful enough to run all the leagues at once in a timely manner. Its also my work laptop, so I shouldn't really be playing on it all that much.
I also have an almost 3 year old custom built work station with no graphics card, and cheap dual core amd cpu/apu. And it runs its fine with just a few leagues also. I only play in 2d mode though. Not sure how well 3d is on either system.
The reason I want to upgrade myself, is neither one of them is capable of doing a very large database quickly. I want to run as many leagues as possible. Which means a lot of players, and a lot of background processing.
An i5 is plenty powerful, and will be enough. Even the mobile version on my laptop is great. It blows my desktop out of the water. I just can't be using it all the time.
So I am guessing the quad core processor is the main thing that will dictate the speed of the game and the dedicated graphics is only necessary for watching the matches in 3D
What sort of set up are you looking at getting if you don't mind me asking.
My last laptop was pretty high spec at the time and has lasted well so i would rather pay a bit extra and go for something that will last a while although I don't want to go overboard with stuff I am not going to get the use out of.
Its a minefield with all the diffrent combinations of chipsets and graphics options !!!Comment

If you want to get something that will last you a long time, you will probably want to get an i5 of i7. i7's don't out perform the i5 by all that much. And the i5 is the cheaper option. You can get a nice laptop with a great i5 in it for $400-$600. And that should last you a good long while if you take care of it.
What you get should fit your needs and your budget. Don't go buying something because you think you need it. If this is really the only game you play on it, and you don't want to go crazy with the amount of playable leagues like myself; you don't need anything expensive. You can do with a $400-$600 laptop like mine. Of course if you want to go bigger, and you can afford it, why not. But don't do it because you think you need to.
Realistically, if you want to take into account their requirements. It only requires a Pentium 4. Which stopped being produced in 2008. And they are single core processors. And that is enough to run this game. It would probably take 30 seconds between days, but that isn't a big deal in the long run. So, do you need an i5. No. You don't even need an i3 realistically. You could honestly get away with what ever you have now. Or a $300 new laptop.
My current laptop can handle 6-8 leagues at once and be fast enough where the simulations aren't annoying. They last maybe 10-20 seconds between days. But if I start loading more than that, its starts getting noticeably longer.
And with a new laptop, you don't need to worry about graphics cards. All new laptops have an APU (cpu and gpu in one chip). And those are well above the recommend specs for the game.
Also here is something I spent a bunch of time reading over today. A benchmark people ran with last years game. They downloaded a save with every league loaded. Simulated for one full week. And posted how long it took to complete.
Most of those are desktops. And are overkill rigs. And they are using 116 leagues at one time. So imagine if you only used a handful. Those i5's would be doing those week sims in seconds instead of minutes. Under a minute per week.

I'm upgrading my desktop. I bought an i5-6600K, and upgraded to 16gb of ram. Which the ram is overkill for this game. But I plan on going crazy. I just want to make that clear. I am not upgrading because I need to. Its only because I want to, for what I want to do with the game.

Those results on the link you sent make interesting reading. I am know thinking I can get something far better than I need for a few hundred pounds less than i thought yesterday.
Cheers mate I owe you a drink !!Comment

Re: Any FM-related questions? Ask them here
Question for all you guys. How do you handle the training? Do you do it all yourself, or have you assistant handle it?
The first year I had the assistant do all of it. Then I started to try and do it myself. And I don't think I fully understand the systems or something. Once I took over, everyone started complaining I was over working them. So I just set it back to assistant handles it for now. And I mean everyone on the team, not just a few players.

Once the season starts, I lower intensity to average and balanced approach. hat lowers the workload for the players allowing me to train attributes or roles. Some players will complain still, but those ones are usually the crap players I will eventually rid myself ofComment

Re: Any FM-related questions? Ask them here
So I was promoted from VNL to League 2. Team was semi-pro, and was forced into becoming pro even though we didn't have the funds. All my players are on part time contracts.
Do I have to offer them new contracts now to get them on full time contracts? Or can I wait until these are set to expire and then offer new ones? Or will the game just auto update them as they are to full time?
If I have to do that now manually offer each one a new contract, that means they will all want raises. And it will eat up my available weekly wages. So I am hoping its not going to force me into this if I don't do it now. Otherwise there goes signing stronger players out the window.

Once again thanks to everyone on here for advice. I will no doubt be back with more questions once its up and running.

Is it just me or do the regen faces in FM look kinda creepy?
I finally just disabled them, because they're so bad. It's something about the eyes, I think.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: Any FM-related questions? Ask them here
Nothing they throw at me now will top playing on my old PC when they first started doing the 3D regen faces. My graphics card wasn't the best, so sometimes the render would mess up. I'd end up with guys where half the face wouldn't load and there'd just be an eyeball floating there.Comment

Someone on here mentioned this a few pages back (Stu). It fixes the hair issues. The examples he shows don't make them look so creepy. Probably going to add that tonight.

Re: Any FM-related questions? Ask them here
Hopefully a quick easy question. Tried searching in google, but only getting things about how to change it, not why I can't.
I have a player who has a squad status of backup. I want to set him to rotation. But it wont let me. Everything is greyed out but backup and no longer needed. He has no transfer of loan status set. And no open promise. He is also happy with good moral. I also just recently made him the club captain due to being one of the older players with the highest leadership stat. Old captain was sold.
Anyone know why I can't change his squad status?
