What's unfortunate is that we should've won the tie in Greece. We had several chances to go up 0-2, or even 0-3 near the end of the game. We never should've given them much of a chance going into yesterday.

It never should've come down to the Auba miss—it should've been done by then.

What yesterday reminded me of is how much of a clearing out we still need. Our central defenders are not good enough, and no matter how much time Arteta has with some players, they're never going to increase their concentration or decision making levels.

I thought Ozil in particular was poor yesterday. Nearly every ball he put into the box from wide was incredibly high and over hit. Wasted chance after wasted chance.

Yes, we're doing what we can with what we have this season, but we're still very much in a massive rebuild—massive.

David Luiz raising his hand and letting the ball go by instead of attempting to defend it for the goal that knocked you out pretty much sums up this season for Arsenal.

Honestly was surprised that Ozil didn't come off after the first goal. Clear as day for anyone to see that Olympiakos were going to play for penalties and keep 10 men behind the ball, Ozil needs space to be effective, and Olympiakos, to their credit, gave him absolute none. Personally, I would've tried to overload the midfield instead of the attack after the goal, as I think it would've been easier to break them down going forward creating from the middle instead of just getting the ball forward and recycling with players deep in attack.

But I'm also not a manager for a reason.

That doesn't look too good for Torreira.

Apparently he twisted his ankle and he can move it—I don't think it's as serious as it seemed to be?

            Also, I don't care if it's against a non-league side—clean sheet, yay!

I didn't see the whole match, but I liked what I saw of Mari. It wasn't a ton, but he looked very comfortable in a high line with the ball at his feet.

2 assists for Reiss Nelson. His first one was awesome, he whipped it in with such venom right on the stroke of HT.

I can’t believe it’s not worse than initially expected.

                Very thankful though.

                  Well, it is.

                  Fractured ankle.

Just a lower league side putting in a proper scissor tackle on some weak foreigners.

                  No card needed.

Yep, right as my son starts his final U8 campaign with Arsenal Juniors.

Yes I'm the gaffer. Yes I may be living vicariously through him.

...That's about right though. Seemingly haven't played on a Saturday morning in ages, and now that our soccer has started, I have to miss the game live. Such is life.

These numbers over the last 10 caught me off guard. Arsenal not setting the word on fire by any means, but by this graphic—nobody else is either outside of Liverpool.

We still have a long way to go, but I am certainly pleased with the trend..

Arteta came in at a terrible time and has really steadied the ship, which was not an easy feat. When you look at other clubs who have brought in a manger mid-season (Spurs) and how they're doing, I'm very happy.

We're not seeing excuses about injuries, needing a preseason, etc. We're making progress, even if it's small.

Spurs were 14th when Mou took over. They were 4th if the table started back when Poch was fired until mid-Feb but I can't find anything that's current.

                                Strap in.

If you look at the table from when Mourinho took over on 11/23, Spurs sit in 5th with 27 points (17 matches).

Since Arteta took over at Arsenal on 12/16, Arsenal are 5th with 17 points (10 matches, lost 1). Spurs are in 11th with 15 points (11 matches, lost 4).

Since Arteta took over, Arsenal have allowed 9 goals in 10 matches with an xGA of 16.34. Spurs have allowed 14 in 11 matches with an xGA of 21.13.

My point: Arsenal have had a more positive trajectory than Spurs since Arteta took over. The numbers show it, and my goodness the on-field product also shows it.

Even though it's the Arsenal thread, oh well, I'll gladly continue to compare Poch to Mourinho because honestly, I think the improvement Mourinho made has been exaggerated. Let's take all of Poch's games this season (12) and Mourinho's first 12 games.

                                Poch
                                - 12 games
                                - 14 points
                                - 4 losses,
                                - 17 GA [17.02 xGA]
                                - xPTS 15.28

                                Mourinho
                                - 12 games
                                - 20 points
                                - 4 losses
                                - 15 GA [14.90 xGA]
                                - xPTS 18.64

Yes, Mourinho won six more points, but overall I'd say it's the mediocrity of the league that helped Spurs move up the table. Saying Poch had Spurs down in 14th place before Mourinho took over sounds terrible, but they were on 14 points. They were two points behind Man United and Wolves, and three points behind Arsenal.
