Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

That's the kind of research we expect and love from you Kreb! You're def OS' advanced stats guy for footy!

Yes, Mourinho won six more points, but overall I'd say it's the mediocrity of the league that helped Spurs move up the table. Saying Poch had Spurs down in 14th place before Mourinho took over sounds terrible, but they were on 14 points. They were two points behind Man United and Wolves, and three points behind Arsenal.
I def agree about Arsenal's improvement, especially defensively.

The only part I disagree with is the "mediocrity" of the league. The league sucked apart from Liverpool and City from the jump, we just didn't know to what extent. You could probably throw Leicester in there too but their recent form has been suspect too.

Poch also had a full strength squad apart from Lloris. You can't dismiss their injuries under Mou that easy. Poch had a relatively full squad with a healthy Kane all playing in the same exact system they've been in and it went south quickly

This XI could do some damage.

AMN started in the midfield in the Charlton friendly in which they won 6-0. Make of that what you will.

I hope he stays and continues to fight for a place in the team. We've all seen the potential—I just hope something comes of it and his attitude is right.

I get the idea of saying players should be thankful to play no matter where they are on the pitch, but him being shoved at left and right fullback when he does not feel comfortable there, at all, will eventually hurt a player mentally.

I’m not even going to try to predict a lineup for today.

Not sure how well we’ll do, but I love that Tierney and Mari are both starting. And Saka! And Eddie! And Willock!

                    Well that was fun.

                    Not.

I will say, it’s nice to see my twitter feed full of Arsenal, and not...other things.

Also, regardless of how it went, it was great to see the boys, and was the first match I’ve watched where I could actually “forget” there was no real crowd. All the other Bundlesliga games, and the Villa game, it was just weird.

I’d say any plan Arteta had got torpedoed when Xhaka and Mari had to come off.

Completely agree. So it’s hard to be “too” down about yesterday.

Still, no Pepe, Martinelli, or Özil though, and they were dreadful going forward.

Given the circumstances, I’m not reading into anything at this point. Just thought it was odd selection.

Well now that Luiz has absolutely played himself out of the team now, I’d like to see Rob Holding get some action now.

It will also be interesting to see how Arteta reshapes the midfield without Xhaka.

                          Also, here’s a whopping stat:

Arteta probably just went with who was the most fit. I'd imagine most of the managers will follow suit.

I thought Arteta set up a pretty good gameplan which should be expected given his familiarity with City. Isolate City's CBs on PEA when their fullbacks are advanced and try to hit with him a through ball into space. He made a couple of great runs but Ceballos and Tierney missed him.

I agree the gameplan was not the issue. Having 2 injuries early in the match will always cause problems but if you take Luiz out, that match probably ends 0-0 or maybe 1-0 City.

I was surprised by how young a lineup Arteta picked but if he has an eye on the future instead of trying to continue playing the older guys now, it was a smart choice.

Mari is out and possibly needs surgery for a ligament/tendon damage in his ankle.

                                Well, ****.
