Australia is pretty much the worst time zone to watch something like this here in America, for sure. Kind of a bummer, because the women's world cup has a charm and vibe that I typically enjoy more than the men's.
If this was on in the afternoon here I'd be watching every day. And it's not even about supporting the US team. I could care less how they do.

Idunno, I stayed up for the 3am game last night and it was ugly, it got to the point where I was kinda hoping in hindsight the post shot had gone in

now I'm hearing the US will still be favored throughout, and it makes me wish I was a betting man

They changed the times specifically for the US to be on in late prime time in the US for (what they thought would be) 4 of their first 5 matches. They couldn’t do it for the final group match. Then the US proceeded to finish 2nd in the group to ruin all of that. LOL, serves them right - the dates and times should be set in stone before the date and unchanged regardless of ratings concerns.

Dang. Wish Brazil would’ve made it through to the KO stages to give me a rooting interest (Marta) with US out.

Vlatko has got to go. Even though I think he made a great tactical decision with Lavelle out, his squad management is still absolutely atrocious. Every substitution he made, as few as there were, was garbage and made no sense at the time (or in retrospect).

Yeah, he's as good as gone. But this kind of complete debacle is not just on a manager.

It really does seem that the wnt culture has been about anything other than actual football for a while...

Add in a little hubris, a little squad turnover to a culture that has been reading its own press...

I don't mean to focus on any perceived differences between genders in the context of sports/competition, but there is something extra extra nerve wracking watching women do penalty shootouts. I genuinely feel for them in those moments, with all of that pressure they put on themselves, trying to not let each other down.

                      My fault ..

I should've said *ahem* "They were at the pinnacle of their game and looked sharp and focused; some tough breaks really didn't go their way. A tough luck loss for sure that, in all honesty, cannot be laid at the feet of the players. The manager is wholly at fault."

They've had their fair share of locker room drama, and off the field focus in general. Not too many people around the world (or even domestically) shedding tears over this. You can get away with all the extra stuff more when you win, that's for sure.

I don’t think it’s so much a culture thing as just the old guard hanging around too long.

The coach is genuinely awful though. There’s really not a positive thing you can say about his management. Imagine having the deepest talent pool in women’s football and just electing not to use it.

you can't play them all at once, though

my issue has been the strange tactic of "get it to Sophia Smith, she'll be trapped, count on her winning 1 on 2, and then we'll have numbers" idea

Our team just wasn't good offensively. Really poor actually. No real international level star power talent on offense (no matter how many commercials Nike runs). Has nothing to do with culture or any of that non football nonsense.

Team just isn't talented on offense. So they put all their eggs in on the defensive side and the defense while not perfect was by far the best thing this version of the team had to offer.

Also a bunch of past their prime players who should have moved on from because they are past their prime.

Not to mention a coach who has no record for offensive tactics and assembled a team that he had no confidence in when it came to subs.

                              So...yeah. Football.

Been watching this version of the girl's team for a year or so now. They just haven't looked very good to me. They became very tough for me to root for due to the off the field stuff. The kids coming up don't look that good either guess you could say the world caught up.
