Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
I've been reading that AC is going to have a chance to stake his claim this year.
Super excited for him
Super not excited to play against him.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
I mean, don't put it past us to screw that up, but playing him is pretty much the lowest risk, most no-brainer decision we could make. 21 years old, already a CL level player, multiple seasons as a starter in a top league, one of the top CB prospects in Europe, homegrown academy player. Honestly the dumbest thing in the world if he somehow doesn't get played.Comment

We play Bayern tomorrow on ESPN3 at 735am EST. Morata and Rudi will probably get some minutes.
Hopefully Alvaro rewrites the curse of the Chelsea #9.
Also, they're saying Eden is ahead of schedule. I hope we don't rush him back too fast.

You'd hope we have learned from the last time we tried to rush Eden back and he ended up basically taking an entire season off because of it.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Well that could have gone better but it is Bayern.
Also Michy looks like a man on a mission this preseasonComment

I don't think Michy played particularly well but he still managed to get on the score sheet. Also, his left foot might be better than his right.
What a weird game. We went full Brazil-Germany for like 20 mins. Never seen Thibo get beaten from range like that before altho both goals saw our defenders go Cahill in terms of backing off. Once Alonso, who probably made the board increase the Sandro bid, decided to track back and defend we were much better. Moses might have played better as a LWB for those last 10 minutes.
Apart from that all I take away from this is that Kante-Cesc won't work vs top sides (kind of stating the obvious) and Ribery is aging like a nice merlot. He was on a different planet.

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Reading the comments over at WAGNH about Sergi Roberto makes no sense. Neither does Barca fanboys saying he's trash after deputizing all year at RB when he's really a CM and they failed to address Alves leaving.
I'd love for us to meet his release clause. We need depth at midfielder. We need guys who can pass and recycle the ball. We really struggled at times last year beating high press teams and with Pool, Citeh, and Spurs employing a high press it would be a good idea to fill the squad with more capable passers. Especially when we don't Costa's back-to-goal hold-up play anymore. Morata's movement is pretty good though and Michy has improved with his back to goal but it would still be excellent depth IMO and 35 mil euros is sadly the cost of squad players on elite clubs these days.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
The only real problem I have with Roberto is that, if we want a quality player who isn't really good enough to start for us, then why did we let Nate go?
What are his positions? CM and RB? People don't want Dave at RWB because he's "too slow and isn't a 1v1 dribbling ace", so we want Roberto who is basically "if Dave was NOT the best defender in Europe"? At CM, he's a player closer to Cesc than anyone else, except obviously not nearly as talented. Crescent is already going to be splitting time with Bakayoko, so if Roberto takes Matic's place he's not really doing anything that one of our supposedly talented youngsters can't.
Roberto's position in the team is exactly the kind that most other teams would use a youth player to fill.Comment

We don't want Roberto at RB, well at least I don't. As emergency cover, sure, I mean he put in over 40 appearances for Barca last season and the Barca fans I trust laugh at the "he was the weak link" comments thrown at him. He's not as talented a passer in terms of that killer ball as Cesc but who is that's available for the price? He's a better dribble, defender, and athlete than Cesc and Cesc isn't getting any younger. I don't think it's about adding a new dimension to the midfield, it's about a player who can step in and do a little bit of everything with no drop-off.
I'd love to trust a youth player here but there's Bakayoko coming off knee surgery, Kante eventually needing a rest (plus the added games which he didn't have at Leicester or us last year), and Cesc getting older there's a need IMO. Not sure what we're going to do with Baker or Pasalic though. Pasalic quietly has had some pretty good loan spells but he'll probably want to move where he can get regular minutes too.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Baker was a crucial player for Vitesse though.
I'm pretty sure he's good enough that we can at least give him a run out and see what happens.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Would you rather have him get some PL experience/Championship loan or be our 4th choice?
