Hate to say it, but I am inclined to agree with Kreb at least a little bit here.
The English press in general has a very long-standing habit of excusing really poor tackles in the name of ***Premier League Physicality***, refs play a huge role in that too. It really is a cultural thing. Remember the Eduardo tackle? Taylor got no extra punishment for that, and through several interviews he never even felt it was something he needed to genuinely apologize for.
It's the whole Premier League culture of "tackles and physicality happen, everyone just needs to toughen up, no player ever means to intentionally injure another". I mean of course not, but that doesn't mean it's ok for players to go recklessly flying in all over the place, except to a lot of Prem fans/press/officials it actually DOES mean that's ok.
That tackle on Sane was beyond stupid. The guy apologized but that doesn't matter, he said he's not "the type" and all that stuff, but go back and watch it. There is literally no other possible outcome of that tackle other than Sane getting injured. He's too far to even touch the ball, pundits are saying he had "good intentions" but it's literally not possible, he's NEVER getting that ball. This isn't even to mention the fact that, ok he apologized and says he's not the type, but he got sent off for another bad challenge on Diaz at the end of the game.
Refs really need to start doing something about these **** tackles, it's not the 90s anymore. The game has changed, more and more teams want to play actual football, and eventually the Prem will start missing out on super talented attacking players because they won't want to risk getting a bad injury. Jose used to complain about this very regularly.
