    WTF!!!!

Both penalties were beyond weak. Kane offside not called, did he trip over a blade of grass?

How is the 2nd one a penalty?

    What a fricking joke!

I'll never be okay with a penalty being awarded after theatrics and dramatizing whatever contact did occur.

As for the Kane dive, to me that's always been the Rooney dive. Which for years was unfortunately called clever and a good bit of skill, to push the ball away from goal and willingly run into the keeper's arms.

Lamela went down like he was shot and the linesman bought it.

The linesman is gonna take the spotlight instead of talking about some special goals.

There was contact! It was in the box! If that happened anywhere else on the field it would be a foul!

My biggest issue with those thoughts that many people are surely shouting right now is that anywhere else on the field would Lamela have put his body in the path of VVD clearance attempt just in an attempt to draw contact?

Tough to be on the end of 1 bad decision but 2 is just brutal.

                    Yes actually.

If Lamela did that anywhere else on the pitch he still gets the foul, because he’s just shielding the ball.

I’m pretty upset to be siding with Spurs here, but that second penalty was correct.

Maybe in the context of a game where Can is allowed to literally wrap his arms around someone and rugby tackle them to the ground without picking up a card, you could argue the Lamela penalty was soft, but it’s still a penalty.

Today's game really just furthers that it is correct to always go down in the box.

I remember Howard Webb being on MNF and Neville (who was trying to prove a point) was asking him if he could remember an incident where a premier league ref gave a penalty without the player going to ground and Webb couldn’t give a single example.

Until refs stop punishing players for staying on their feet, always go down in the box.

That actually happened today. Benteke won/was awarded a penalty today and he didn't go to ground. In fact he didn't even try to claim he was fouled, nor asked for the penalty. He jumped for a header and had his shirt pulled, not hard enough to move the big man. But the ref thought it was enough that it put him off making solid contact with the ball.

Happened for us against Qarabag in the CL group stages earlier as well.

Hopefully it happens more, because correcting stuff like this will do way more to curb diving than just punishing players without bothering to address the root of the problem.

It was actually the linesman who noticed it and then told the ref.
