Wild. This is only day 2 lmao.
It sounds like Super League has the lawyers ready to roll out but I guess they forgot a public relations team.

Pep Guardiola: "It is not a sport where the relation between effort and success does not exist."

"That's why I said many times I want the best competition as strong as possible, especially the Premier League," he said.

"It's not fair when one team fights and fights and arrives at the top and it cannot be qualified because the success is already guaranteed for a few clubs."

You might want to tell some of your employees what's going on before you throw them to the media wolves.

Talking about tying opinions about English football into respect from one’s family.... Stop being so dramatic.

I will say that while it's beyond clear that this is not posturing, but an actual attempt to break away, the one thing that could stop its progress now are the talks about the UK government stepping in and the EU stepping in as this would not be truly competitive and would be a monopoly/cartel of sorts.

That level of government involvement is very surprising, but it's the type of thing that could do serious damage to this. I love that the UK government is suddenly talking about fan ownership, 50+1, etc.

The best timeline is that this does not go ahead but radical reforms take place to not only stop this from happening again, but to change how clubs behave, answer to their supporters, etc.

The UK government has wanted to regulate football for some time now, so some involvement is not out of the question.

Not surprising considering they both seemed to join late for fear of not being a founding club. It does seem like before the day is done one of them will say **** it.

A 50+1 style fan ownership could legitimately prevent this in the future I think. I saw another suggestion that the club name itself would be fan-owned, sort of like the pitch owners associations, which could change things as well.

Put the pitch and club name in the hands of the fans and this whole thing falls flat imo.

Abramovich is not a good person, but he is the only owner of that bunch who is a genuine fan of the club he owns and the game of football itself.

I was surprised Chelsea was involved purely because of what we know about Abramovich, but like you said it probably was more of a not getting left behind thing than anything else.

Good luck trying to current owners to relinquish some of their ownership rights, especially when many are “losing $” because of COVID.

I’m probably one of the few Chelsea fans that isn’t mad at Roman for jumping with the rebel clubs. All reports say that is and City didn’t want to but felt like we had to keep pace and not be left out. It makes sense when you think about the kind of investments the two clubs/owners have dumped into their clubs to get them to the levels they are now.

Glad to see that once again “we ruined footy”

hate the super league and i hate government regulation(though this is mostly through the lens that they completely **** it up all the damn time, theoretically i think it's fine)

they should just force the owners of the big six to sell the clubs now, maybe if kroenke is gone i can go back to being an Arsenal fan.

Well the government stepping in could have ramifications for ownership rights etc.

They can basically just start making up new rules clubs have to follow since they could be considered as no longer part of the EU or English system.

                      Definitely new territory here.

Yeah and like someone said, the only ones who are profiting off this right now are lawyers and the media. I’d imagine the type of lawyers that the Big 6 clubs would be able to secure would be top notch and would present some very intriguing arguments. They’d probably pull crazy amounts of data supporting how much more revenue their clubs bring to the league than others. Tv ratings, global membership #’s, etc...

It’s just a bad situation all around but one that is setting a dangerous precedent as Owners test the water. That water’s a lil chilly right now but clear enough for them to see the treasure buried at the bottom.

Also worth pointing out this already exists at Chelsea, which is probably a leading factor to Chelsea being the most likely club to back out.

The CPO owns BOTH the pitch at Stamford Bridge as well as the name Chelsea FC.

Roman couldn’t even get past the CPO to give the fans a shiny new stadium. He will definitely have a lot of trouble with them for something as big as this.

It does feel a little gross to hear FIFA/UEFA come out like they are somehow the good guys here. They are only against this because they're afraid of losing power and money, not out of some dedication to morality, actual competition or integrity. They are just lucky that this whole thing has received backlash.

What, you DON'T enjoy billionaires wagging their finger at other billionaires for cutting into their profits?

If you’re this selfish and apathetic when it comes to something like this, I think it’s fair to assume you take that attitude into all other aspects of your life, which would then make it fair to assume that you’re an immoral person of low character who will spit in anybody’s face to get ahead in life without regard for their feelings or quality of life. You are actively rooting for soccer to die. You want the most popular sport on earth to be ruined even though you know so many people are opposed to it. Borderline sociopathic. You don’t care if smaller clubs struggle. You wouldn’t care if any one of another club’s fans died tomorrow.

Also, I have experience dealing with you, being that you’ve personally called me out, shamed me, and inferred that I wasn’t intelligent on here and Twitter various times and only gave me a half-baked, insincere apology. All because I don’t worship Liverpool. Good people don’t do that.
