Big Sam steals points again. No complaints from me. We were not at it today. Second half we were rubbish. 100% home record gone.Comment

Told the girlfriend before the match that we would probably drop points, today. Not one bit surprised.#LFC

Spurs are going to drop more points playing this way. Just like the Palace game.
EDIT: You could see it coming.Last edited by ~LiverpoolRed~; 12-27-2020, 04:00 PM.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
I must have watched a different match to Jose. He just said after scoring in the 1st minute they controlled the game for the other 89 minutes.
Wolves had more possession (as expected), more shots, more on target, more touches, more passes more tackles, corners, etc.
They are so boring to watch playing this way. It's like watching Italy. Score a goal then sit back and soak up the pressure.Comment

Which sounds obvious, but what he means is that if his team is winning something (a trophy, not just games) then he's safe. His team is happy, the supporters are happy, and the board is happy. But when you're not getting the results that your entire approach is after, it's far easier for everyone to start doubting you, players saying they're not enjoying their football, supporters putting pressure on the board, etc.
It sounds overly simplistic to mean anything, but I think it's a great observation. If he's winning, he's not questioned but instead celebrated for being back to his old self. But if he's not winning, he'll be relentlessly under pressure. Far more than a manager who is sitting somewhere else in the table whose first priority is to not lose instead of to win. Far more than a manager whose philosophy is more 'positive' and not as negative.
It doesn't mean his approach is right or wrong, just that when it goes wrong it's really, really easy to question.Comment

I mentioned hearing it when he was at United, and I've always thought about it since. Michael Cox (Zonal Marking) made the great point that with Mourinho, his results-based approach only works when you get results.
