Remember when Alexis took a wild swing at Ivanovic’s head? He didn’t get any punishment because Ivanovic didn’t do anything. Same for Salah’s.

For me it goes back to the Neymar discussion; if referees were better and more consistent, embellishment wouldn’t be necessary. Until that time however, it’s nearly mandatory to actually get the right calls.

I mean, I don't agree with your first point at all, everyone in here at least knows that Pepe was wrong, and deserved the red card. I don't think we need to make him out to be the bad guy here because everyone knows he's the bad guy(and a total idiot at that)

I take no issue with Alioski hitting the ground. It's the 3 minutes afterwards where he pretends he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald that I take issue with.

And yeah, refs suck, no argument there.

Yeah that’s my only issue with these incidents. I agree in what Brahv says that you have to draw attention to it but the theatrics after actually make more upset at the victims (to a degree).

I really still can't believe the extra stupidity involved in what Pepe did. He finally gets a start in the league. It's his time to show he deserves a run of starts going forward. His team hasn't scored from open play in going on EIGHT HOURS in the league and it's 0-0.

There is a slight coming together and he decides to turn his back on the play - while an attack is in progress (!) - and retaliate. What the actual ****, dude?

I don't really pay too much attention to statistics but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Michy Batshuayi near the top of the league if there's a stat for most missed chances per minutes played. He always misses guilt edge chances. Surely, it's a main reason why Chelsea loan him out all the while.

Burnley are that friend who you let stay at your place til they can get back on their feet.

4 months later they’ve barely tried looking for a job, and they’re standing in your kitchen drinking your orange juice right out of the container.

Adama Traore is getting the start today - only his 4th of the season. It always surprises me a bit that he isn't a guaranteed fixture in the starting XI. Is it a fitness thing? Or is he just best used as a sub to run at tired defenders? Or maybe it's just that he only has an end product against Man City

EDIT: In any case, I'm hoping this is an entertaining match. It looks like it should be on paper. The nice thing about being in an isolation status, is I have a great excuse to just watch all the soccer. My Loons won their first ever playoff match last night!

Well, i don't agree with you here. Just go back to any Arsenal v Man United game from the early to mid 2000s and see what Keane and Viera et al got away with. I don't mind them going a bit away from that but still. It's an adult sport with a lot on the line filled with passion. There are lines you dont cross and that in my mind that threshold wasn't met by Pepe for a straight red. Yellow for both guys. One for idiocy and another for cheating the integrity of the game. I do not agree one bit that embellishment should be part of any sport to draw attention to an incident. If it was missed, then it was missed. The league can go back later and take care of any incident if they feel it was that egregious. Sure that changes the game at hand in that moment but the once or twice a season that happens is not worth what is going on now. Literally we are taking incidents that that aren't red cards and changing them into cards, penalties, etc by acting.

The problem is the sport has evolved into this idea that players have some sort of "right" to draw attention to minor incidents to show a gravity that just isnt there. The way Alioski reacted, you'd think we are talking concussion, stitches, and a serious injury and its happening more and more. To me that was up there with events like Rivaldo in the World Cup years ago.

The problem is that there is absolutely NO context in which an intentional headbutt is part of the game. It's up there with biting and spitting. No matter how bad it is, you're off. Period.

As for this match - 0-0 at halftime with very few good chances. And Martin Tyler on commentary. Come on!

Yeah headbutting got no place here.

Wolves playing with a back 4 today which is a rare occurrence.

Alex McCarthy has made some good saves in the 1st half.

He really made up for parrying that one into a dangerous area by making himself big to deny Dendonker. Nice double save. I think he got a pretty late view on the first shot that came in.

Theo Walcott scores for Southampton in the league 15 years later!

EDIT: And then a terrible finish one-on-one. Should have two.

The goals sure have dried up for Wolves. 8 goals in nearly 9 matches. They never really replaced Jota and Doherty's goals. Just youngsters really.

Jimenez is really struggling in the 2nd half. He had a free header earlier and missed the target. And just now was in alone from a FK and couldn't control the ball.

^ Yeah that looked like a rehearsed set piece. A better first touch and he would have rifled that.
