And sorry I just don't see how any Manchester United fan can say they're better off without Christiano Ronaldo. He was what made United's counter attack the best in the World.
It's funny. When I first heard about it this morning, I was expecting mass hysteria from the supporters. But after spending the day reading blog comments and message boards, a lot aren't that upset. I don't necessarily think that people believe United is better off with him gone, but I think many feel his act had finally gone stale. It's emotionally draining to have your best player constantly flirting with another club. Combine that with the over the top antics he had started to pull towards the end of the season and people had had enough.

As for the upcoming season, I think United's attack will become a much more balanced one. I think it had become easy to defend against United because they had become overly reliant on Ronaldo to score goals. I would say that is part of the reason why they ended up grinding out so many 1-0 results.

I think if United bring in a quality winger and another striker, along with playing Rooney and Berbatov in their favored positions, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to replace the goals.

      Re: The Transfer Thread

I agree - it might be the classic case of addition by subtraction. Ronaldo had the ball a lot and needed to have it lots to be effective. In running everything through him, United did become predictable. Rooney had to especially sacrifice his play to cater to Ronny.

They won't be able to replace Ronaldo with an equally talented winger, but if they get someone who is very good, they will be fine.

I think the interesting part will be seeing how Kaka, Ronaldo and Villa, if signed, will co-exist with Raul, who has been the focal point for Real. Is this the moment where he finally takes a backseat to the players that have surpassed him?

Predictable, but nobody could stop them. Killed in the Premier League, killed in the CL. Give me that predictability lol. The Bulls were predictable with Michael Jordan, yet they won six titles!

And Rooney had better sacrificed his play because he's nowhere near the player CR7 is.

Exactly. I'll take that kind of predictability any day.

I agree that United is better off selling Ronaldo than keeping him there against his will. But to expect them to keep up what they've been able to accomplish the last 2 years, is highly unlikely without Ronaldo.

Where are they getting all this money? THey better make sure they keep some in reserve to shore up their shoddy defence.

For sure I could live with that. I was just saying that part....they were fantastic with him and I'm not a Rooney fan and think he is overrated lol....

Liverpoolred - Real gets their money from their huge revenue streams and favorable credit lines because of their stature. They have the best TV deal and because they are Real Madrid, they can borrow money at a much lower rate. Essentially, the system really helps them. It also doesn't hurt that they are very recognizable throughout the world and with both Kaka and Ronaldo, their merchandise sales will skyrocket

They do need a defender bad. Pepe sucks and Metzelder isn't much better.

I would assume that Sergio Ramos would move into center as a CB and Lass Diarra would move back to RB. I would guess that the Real Madrid backline would look something like:

                    Marcelo---Pepe---Ramos---Lass
                    -------------Casillas------------

Granted, that is not the best backline, but do you really need that great of a defense when you have Villa, Huntelaar, Raul, van Nistelrooy, Higuan, Ronaldo, Kaka, Sneijder, Robben, van der Vaart, Guti, Gago, and Saviola? This is not to mention that Metzelder, Drenthe, Heinze, Salgado, and Torres would be on the bench. Oh yeah, the best effin keeper in the world is there to clean up any mess.

I follow Real Madrid almost as closely as I do Arsenal. And I assure you Pepe does not suck. He was by far Madrid's best defender this year. He couldn't help that the guys around him had sub par years. Even Iker, though still brilliant, didn't have his best year.

Lass was tried out out at RB this season by Juande and proceeded to stink the place up. He is penciled in at CM anyway. With preferably Alonso from Liverpool. If not him it will either be Gago or Mamadou Diarra with the other probably on the way out.

I wonder what Florentino is up to. Something tells me a certain Frenchman may now be available.
