Oh to be a fly on the wall in the first meeting between the wantaway player and Martin O'Neill.

17.10 Wayne Bridge has signed a new four-year deal at Chelsea. The former Southampton stalwart has proved a capable understudy at Stamford Bridge, although he has found opportunities hard to come by since Ashley Cole's arrival. Bridge had previously been linked with Portsmouth.

17.28 Paul Ince believes Robbie Fowler still has the 'natural ability' to perform in the Premier League. There were more than a few eyebrows raised when Ince brought in his former Liverpool team-mate, but Blackburn's new boss insists Fowler still has it all to do to win a deal.

18.02 Birmingham full-back Franck Queudrue has been told he can leave St Andrews on a free transfer.

        Re: The Transfer Thread

I was just seeing it on an Italian site I frequent, but now other outlets have displayed that Ron is almost to Milan. I will not buy it until it is official though.

Not sure how I feel, could go either way. I feel they need more help in the midfield than up front. Just not sure if he will be up to it.

He only made 10 or 12 starts in the Premiership last year anyway. He was getting old. Out with the old and in w/ the new!

True, but that was with Flamini in the squad. The prior year Gilberto was a staple in the center of midfield. Unless Wenger has something up his sleeve in terms of buying a CM, I'd like to see them hold on to GS for now. If Diaby, Song or someone else steps up & establishes himself, then I can see moving him. But until then, better safe than sorry...

                                Re: The Transfer Thread

Sorry guys, been out all day. Here's Wednesday:

7.20 Hull boss Phil Brown has again spoken of a desire to land Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell. Sir Alex Ferguson may be reticent to allow his permanent departure but could be convinced to sanction a loan switch. Stay logged on for all the best from today's papers.

7.23 Arsenal midfielder Gilberto is in Greece today to tie up the loose ends of a deal in place to sign for Panathinaikos. The Brazilian will become the highest paid player in Greek football.

7.30 Gilberto's departure could kick-start one of the summer's more surprising transfers, according to reports. Liverpool's Xabi Alonso is wanted by Arsene Wenger to partner Cesc Fabregas in a new look Arsenal midfield. Should the Gunners move for Alonso, it would certainly clear the path for Liverpool to seal a deal for Gareth Barry, who is also interesting Arsenal.

7.35 It could be exciting times ahead for Newcastle fans, at least if some newspaper reports are to be believed. Real Zaragoza's Argentine playmaker Aimar could be heading for the North East. The best of the rest of the papers sees Stewart Downing on his way to Aston Villa, while Liverpool are ready to break the bank to land Robbie Keane.

8.05 Tottenham midfielder Aaron Lennon insists he has no desire to quit White Hart Lane. The England wide man has been one of a number of Spurs players linked with a move.

8.20 Milan are expected to unveil Ronaldinho to the Italian press today after finally thrashing out a deal with Barcelona for the Brazilian. The ladies of Manchester can rest easy, as City's bid for the playmaker/playboy has fallen short.

8.47 Not strictly a transfer but Simon Jordan's decision to sell Crystal Palace has hit today's newspapers. The Eagles chief has long since grown exasperated with the football world and a tribunal's decision to award Palace just £700,000 for John Bostock has proved to be the final straw. Reports that he is to build a sunbed empire are unconfirmed as yet.

9.11 Sky Sports News are reporting Aston Villa's Gareth Barry has pitched up at training following his two-week exile. The England man's future remains very much in the air, with Arsenal reportedly having joined Liverpool in the race for his signature.

9.23 Skysports.com understands Birmingham are closing in on a move for Derby midfielder Stephen Pearson.

9.36 Chelsea striker Didier Drogba will decide on his future within the next ten days, according to his agent. Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan are all reportedly interested in Drogba, but his agent now claims he could decide to remain at Stamford Bridge.

9.45 Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has claimed Brazil international Robinho is worth more than the £47.5million valuation mooted in the media. Seems like an absolute steal to me. The Brazilian forward scored a whopping 11 goals last season. What price Ronaldo then Ramon?

9.58 John Kennedy is hoping Celtic will allow him to join SPL rivals Motherwell on loan. The full-back had looked primed for the switch but the move has now been delayed.

10.10 Big news coming out of Barcelona as Alexander Hleb arrives in the Catalan capital for his medical. The Camp Nou giants have wasted precious little time in replacing Ronaldinho, with Hleb expected to be unveiled tomorrow.

10.13 Coventry City have announced that striker Clinton Morrison has joined up with the side for pre-season training. The Republic of Ireland international is looking for a new club having left Crystal Palace in the summer.

10.23 Espanyol are still waiting for an official approach from Tottenham for Luis Garcia. They have, though, already lined up a replacement for the forward, according to the club's sporting director.

10.31 Reading director of football Nicky Hammond says the club are under no pressure to sell any of their stars. He is though willing to concede that he expects a couple of departures.

10.43 The agent of Xabi Alonso has claimed the Liverpool midfielder is aware of interest from Arsenal. Alonso had looked to be on his way to Juventus before the Old Lady declared there would be no more summer spending. Where will the Euro 2008 winner be playing his football next season?

10.58 Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is moving on to other targets after missing out on Ronaldinho. Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim is thought to be a name on Hughes' wish list.

11.05 Birmingham chairman David Gold is adamant Sebastian Larsson will not be allowed to leave St Andrews. The Swede is reported to have attracted interest from Newcastle and Blackburn.

11.11 Wolves defender Charlie Mulgrew has completed a switch to Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen for an undisclosed fee, while Chesterfield have agreed terms with veteran midfielder Darren Currie, manager Lee Richardson has confirmed.

11.38 Real Zaragoza's Brazilian midfielder Matuzalem is close to completing a loan move to Lazio, the Spanish Segunda Division side have confirmed. The South American is keen for pastures new following the club's relegation last season.

12.03 Coventry City are ready to offer former Sunderland full-back Stephen Wright a contract. Wright is available on a free transfer after leaving the Stadium of Light at the end of last season.

12.11 Hull City have completed a triple swoop for George Boateng, Peter Halmosi and Tony Warner. Boateng arrives from Middlesbrough, Halmosi joins from Plymouth Argyle and Warner has come in from Fulham.

12.12 Wigan Athletic have now confirmed the signing of Olivier Kapo from Birmingham City on a three-year deal. The transfer had been held up on Tuesday evening, but all problems have now been resolved.

12.23 Wesley Sneijder has claimed that Hamburg playmaker Rafael van der Vaart is desperate to join Real Madrid. However, Sneijder feels Van der Vaart may have to wait a year before moving to the Bernabeu.

12.43 Birmingham City have tied up the capture of Marcus Bent from Charlton Athletic for a fee in excess of £1million. Bent has accepted a three-year contract at St Andrews after pulling out of a move to Cardiff City despite agreeing personal terms.

Paper talk Reports in the local Valencia media claim Los Che are lining up a move for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o. The Cameroon ace would be allowed to leave Barca for the right price and reports suggest Valencia want to pair Eto'o with David Villa in attack. Now that would be an attack to strike fear into any defence!

13.09 Gary McAllister has confirmed Leeds United are closing in on a new signing after agreeing a fee for the unnamed player. McAllister has been in the market for a striker and has already completed three permanent deals this summer.

13.13 Ipswich Town are closing in on the signing of Rudi Skacel from Southampton. Other clubs are interested in the Czech Republic international, but Skacel is expected to plump for a move to Portman Road.

13.22 Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista would be open to a move to Serie A side Roma, according to the player's agent. Baptista has been unable to establish himself as a fixture in Real's side and could leave for regular first-team football.

13.27 Bulgarian striker Valeri Bojinov has reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester City after insisting he is more than content to stay at Eastlands. The former Fiorentina forward has been linked with a return to Italy as he looks to regain full fitness after a serious knee injury.

13.49 Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong has rejected talk linking him with a move to Newcastle, saying he is focusing on the new season at Hamburg. Magpies boss Kevin Keegan has reportedly taken an interest in De Jong after he impressed for Holland at Euro 2008.

13.54 Blackburn Rovers have invited Segundo Castillo on trial but have not agreed a £6million deal for the midfielder. Rovers are hoping the Ecuador international's club Red Star Belgrade will agree to Castillo linking up with Paul Ince's squad for the pre-season trip to Germany.

14.14 Wesley Sneijder has questioned the wisdom of Real Madrid signing Cristiano Ronaldo because of the effect his wages would have on the squad. The Dutch midfielder also hopes Robinho stays at the Bernabeu as he says there is not much difference between the Brazilian and Ronaldo.

14.31 Sunderland are in talks to sign Cork City midfielder David Meyler. An initial bid has been rejected, but Cork are prepared to sell Meyler once their valuation is met.

14.49 Olympiakos are reportedly in talks with Liverpool over the signing of midfielder Sebastian Leto. The Argentine has yet to make an impact at Anfield, and could be offered the chance of a move to Greece.

14.57 Nigerian full-back Celestine Babayaro's bid to earn a deal at Portsmouth has been dashed with the news he has contracted malaria. Babayaro trained with Pompey last week, but is now in a Chelsea hospital while he recovers from the illness.

15.08 Le Mans are still hoping to sign Norway international Tarik Elyounoussi despite competition from Heerenveen. Le Mans have had an offer accepted by his club Fredrikstad, but have yet to speak to the attacker.

15.10 New Hull City signing George Boateng is ready to give his all to ensure the club remain in the Premier League. Boateng has signed a two-year deal at the KC Stadium and is one of three arrivals at the club on Wednesday, with Peter Halmosi and Tony Warner also having signed.

15.24 Midfielder Alexander Hleb says he wants to 'win everything' with Barcelona after arriving in Spain to undergo a medical. Hleb is expected to complete his move to Barcelona from Arsenal within the next 24 hours.
