SCORES

CGY: Regehr (1st, 5:08), Iginla (2nd, 8:50, PP)
GOALIES
TOR: Gustavsson (33/35, 1.87) CGY: Kiprusoff (32/35, 3.09)
Calgary: Taking on the best team in the West, the Leafs were able to grab the win on goals from Kaberle and two from Caputi and on a stellar 33 save performance by Gustavsson. On a positive note the Leaf PP has now scored on 3 of 9 chances in the last to games.
“I almost got the hat trick tonight, but 2 goals is still pretty good.” Reported Caputi on his FB page.
Leaf Management held a press conference after the game. “At the beginning of the month we said we were looking for a 7th d-man to fill the void left by the Finger trade, well were happy to announce that after hard work and some impressive play on the Marlies, Brett Lebda will be our 7th man.” (Lebda - 17pts, 4pims, +10 in 30 AHL games). “I’m happy to get this chance, I won’t let them down.” Quoted Lebda after the announcement was made.
Finishing off a 3 game road trek against the Canucks (14-12-3), Gustavsson (10-4, 1.89) will get his 5th start. Komi and Beau will switch spots on the 1st/2nd d pairing and Lebda will take Lashoff’s place on the 3rd pairing. Mitchell will be a healthy scratch.
Injury List:
MacArthur - Out with a separated shoulder on Dec 2nd , expected return Jan 4th.
Activity:
12/18/2010 - Leafs trade C John Mitchell (4pts, 14 pims, -10 in 27 games) and the rights to prospect C Joel Champagne to the Islanders for two 3rd (2011, 2012) round picks.
1. Mitchell has been horrible this year with a -10 and a 48% in the dot in 27 games, there are far better options on the Leafs then him, good riddance. Plus I’m pretty sure if I waived him someone would pick him up and I would get nothing.
2. With prospect Champagne it was more of a numbers game. He’s an undrafted 20yr old that has a C potential, I know I can score better in the draft. (hypothetically right now I would have the 67th pick and could get Matthias Hecht a 6’6” 248 lb power forward center - this guy would be mean)
3. I now have 2 open spots on the roster and $7.125 million in Cap room. As well in the upcoming draft I have 9 picks with 5 of them in the first 5 rounds, if I want to make a move to get a 1st rounder or move up in the draft I definitely have some chips to play with.
I once again believe I came out on top here.
