What Does Madden Do Well???

When you use the eye test, a lot of people would say you're comparing it to real life and in fairness no video game can compare to that either.

For me the best is head to head with a competitor, but all we really have to compare is APF 2k8.

Seven years of development and a console generation between them and I would still give the edge to the older game. I might give madden a B in this head to head, but I gotta believe a current game could make both games look like a C at best.

There are some "F" quality animations thrown in there, lol, especially the QB scramble animations. Overall I'd give them C or a D+.

Like I said before, if they address the quality and variety of animations, they are on their way to getting some serious credit from me.

I personally believe Madden struggles in the animation department. The game doesn't look too good in motion. The animations that stand out the most are the QB animations. I honestly believe QB animations need to be scrapped and completely redone.

I think it's a good question. I'm in year 7 in the online CFM I'm in so I must enjoy it. lol.

I think it does Online well. Is is as good as I would like? no. But, when compared to other sports games it's one of the best if not the best as far as online multiplayer.

From play now, head to head cfm, and mut I usually have little to no lag. The game is pretty balanced and I feel if I'm good and play good I have a chance to win. Only confidence and the cfm progression causes unbalance.

The fact that the online cfm is just as in depth as offline is pretty cool.

Not to go off topic, but a majority of them are awful. From the handoffs, to the scrambles, to the footwork, to the throwing motions, even down to the way they walk to the line and audible.

I wouldn't feel qualified to judge without experiencing other games. How else would I define good, bad, A, F?

My expectations change every year, with every new batch of games I play. I guess I grade on a curve. My grade for Madden 2003 is much higher than 2004 or 2005 because I compare 2004 & 2005 to 2K4 & 2K5 (overall, not running animations).

What I consider realistic today is much different than what I considered realistic in prior years. In '89, Madden was realistic as hell... probably the most realistic sports game of the time. In '15, Madden is not at all realistic... the least realistic of the major sports video games (I haven't played hockey in a while).

Regarding just the straight-line running animations, I think Madden's are pretty good. I'd probably give them a B. They fall apart with any change in direction or speed. With that in mind, I'd give them an F, the worst of the major sports video games. The running animations, all their animations really, are stiff & disjointed. It's not the individual animations. In isolation, they're decent. It's the transitions & context.

Exactly and last time I remember a C grade was average, not "well done", so not really sure how the bar got lowered there.

Also while I'm posting, let me say how odd it is to have anyone try to label this thread as inherently "positive" when I find it quite sad. Reason being, it's a shame that when asking what a NFL football game does well, there are so few elements that have anything to do with representing actual NFL football.

I have stated time and time again, Madden ain't just a general video game, it's supposed to be a NFL football simulation video game and as such should reasonably be judged accordingly. So the real question is "What elements of NFL football does Madden do well?". FYI, just having something in the game that's in the NFL doesn't equate to it being done well.
