Are we expecting realism out of this game?

Bootlegs are designed QB passes that get them out of the pocket. PA rollout is the same just with a Playaction added. Also i learned in Madden 05 what a waggle was from Tony Bruno. It's a QB rollout that is designed to be either ran or thrown. Usually around the goalie.

As far as I can tell, they never added the 5 wide QB blast play the Tim Tebow was using on the goalline 10 years ago. I finally found one (1!) QB blast play from a spread formation this year, finally. It's only 4 wide with a back, but still.

The continued rehashing of Madden 20 Madden Bowl isn't really relevant to the discussion of Madden 21 whatsoever. That said, if we're going to keep bringing it up because dunking on Madden wins you internet points: if you're going to discuss the issue fairly, you need to also mention the significant work done by Tiburon this year for M21 to address the shortcomings in M20 which caused this.

The first was that outside zone was wildly overpowered in M20 due to poor play by force defenders and chasing linebackers. The way force and fill defenders' AI was rebuilt was literally the first thing EA mentioned in their July gameplay deep dive stream. The result of that work is self-evident when playing Madden 21 literally at all; outside zone isn't anywhere near as effective this year.

The second reason that high-level competitive players avoided passing which you must consider: user defenders in coverage were entirely too mobile and effective in space. EA very directly addressed that with drastic changes to how defenders move in space - they are much slower and heavier now. In doing so, EA pissed off a very large portion of their community, but they have correctly stuck to their guns on this game design change in the face of that outrage.

If you're going to properly answer the extremely tired "does EA care about realism in Madden??????????" question, at the very least consider all points of data.

So long as competitive video game players embrace the concept of a meta (which doesn't exist in the real game of football), and so long as those results are dependent on manual dexterity and armchair twitch, high-level competitive Madden play will never resemble actual factual football, no matter what game EA puts in front of them to play.

And I think we all recognize the differences.

There are avenues to legitimately criticize the game's realism. Madden Bowl results aren't one of them...it's an artificial environment by nature.

I would argue that the Chiefs and Ravens are embracing the meta of having an other-worldly QB.

Apart from that you're spot on. Videogames will always have exploits and people playing them competitively will always look for them and exploit them.
