Re: Jay's Sliders - Final Release

Okay I have started a test franchise to evaluate these sliders. I am the Eagles (picked totally at random) and I have skipped training camp and preseason so there has been practically no player progression. I am using the original rosters that came with the game.

Week 1:At home to the Giants

Key match ups: Warner 88, Barber 87, Toomer 90, Illiard 84, Shockey 95
Jones 86, Trotter 87, Simoneau 82, Wayne 84, Sheppard 83
Brown 83, Dawkins 98, Lewis 86

McNabb 95, Westbrook 83, Owens 97, Mitchell 82, Smith 82
Emmons 88, Greisen 77, Monk 66, Green 84, Allen 88,
Peterson 86, Stoutamire 81, Williams 89

Giants Oline: 90, 86, 82, 79, 72 Eagles Dline: 94, 95, 90, 80
Eagles Oline: 95, 92, 87, 82, 87 Giants Dline: 98, 77, 79, 77

Gameplan: My Oline should dominate their weak Dline I just need to stay away from Strahan who will be attacking the right hand side of my line where I have Andrews at guard with low awareness. Their LBs also appear really weak so I'm expecting a big day on the ground through the middle, I'll use Buckhalter quite a bit on short yardage situations as his carrying, strength and break tackles are higher than Westbrook's. Owens is not up against a great corner in Peterson so I'll look for him as my main target. Their receivers are not too quick either being slower than my corners so I don't expect to have them streaking past my entire defense all day long. I'll really have to keep an eye on Shockey though, I'll probably play as a lb and mark him out of the game, with Dawkins covering him on occasion as well. Finally the right hand side of their Oline is a real weakness and I have Kearse at LE so I will focus on blitzing from that side to get to an immobile Warner.

Conditions: Fair with 8-13 mph wind.

Re: Jay's Sliders - Final Release

I hope this synopsis provides a lot of useful info on your sliders Jay.

Giant 1st drive: Not a good start first play of the game is a 64 yard TD pass to Toomer who just streaked past Sheppard and caught the ball just before stepping into the endzone, sigh. 1 play 64 yards 11 seconds

Eagles 1st drive: 6 yard run by Westbrook, Incomplete pass, 1 yard run by Buckhalter. 46 yard Punt

Giants 2nd drive: Incomplete pass, 9 yard pass to Hilliard, 3 yard run by Barber, 37 yard pass to Hilliard, 2 yard run by Barber, 5 yard pass to Finn, 13 yard pass to Barber, INT by Sheppard on the 3 yard line.

Eagles 2nd drive: 8 yard run by Westbrook, 6 yard pass to Owens, 19 yard pass to Smith, 1 yard run by Westbrook, 9 yard pass to Owens, 2 yard run by Westbrook, 4 yard pass to Mitchell, 3 yard run by Westbrook, 10 yard holding penalty 1st and 20, 11 yard pass to Mitchell, 33 yard pass to Owens, 4 yard run by Westbrook, 4 yard TD pass to Smith. 13 plays 93 yards 6.00 minutes - nice drive not a single incomplete pass.

Giants 3rd drive: 81 yard TD pass to Carter (I'm beginning to see a pattern here!) the receiver, who admittedly is quick (speed 94, Acc 93), ran across the middle. Ware who was supposed to be covering him was absolutely nowhere near him when he caught the ball on the 35 yard line.Dawkins had gone to match up with Shockey and so my other safety, Lewis (spd 86, Acc 87) had to come across to cover but was absolutely smoked as Carter flew past him and outran my whole team for the last 50 yards. As a side note Kearse received the most viscious pancake I have ever seen by the right tackle Allen, rated 72, PBK 83, hmmm. 1 play 81 yards 13 seconds

Eagles 3rd drive: -3 yard run by Westbrook 15 yard facemask penalty on the tackle 1st and 10, 8 yard run by Westbrook.

End of first Quarter. Score Giants 14 Eagles 7

Re: Jay's Sliders - Final Release

Second Quarter:

2 yard run by Ritchie, 7 yard pass to Smith, 3 yard run by Westbrook, 8 yard run by Westbrook, 1 yard run by Buckhalter, 6 yard run by Buckhalter, incomplete pass, incomplete pass, INT by Petersen on the 7 yard line.

Giants 4th drive: 2 yard pass to Shockey, 5 yard run by Barber, 2 yard run by Barber, 44 yard punt, 13 yard return by Westbrook.

Eagles 4th drive: 1 yard run by Westbrook, incomplete pass, incomplete pass, 46 yard punt.

Giants 5th drive: 0 yard run by Barber, 30 yard screen pass to Shockey Warner injured on play out for a quarter Palmer replaces him as Manning is already injured, incomplete pass, 2 yard pass to Hilliard, 47 yard TD pass to Shockey. Shockey (spd 85, Acc 91) comes off the line and tears through my defense, totally outrunning my SS (Lewis spd 86, Acc 87) nothing I can really say about this. It just keeps happening. Surely a product of the RB ability being so high which makes the WR's too fast. (i mentioned this in an earlier post on this thread). 5 plays 79 yards 1.59 minutes

Eagles 5 th drive: incomplete pass, 1 yard pass to Owens, incomplete pass, 53 yard punt.

Giants 6th drive: holding penalty 1st and 20, -3 yard run by Barber, 33 yard pass to Tyree (spd 89, Acc 88) streaked through my defense. 44 yard pass to Shockey, incomplete, 1 yard run by Barber, 6 yard td pass to Toomer. The coverage was so horrible he was wide open.

Eagles 6th drive: 2 yard pass to Westbrook 5 yard facemask penalty, 2 yard run by buckhalter, 15 yard pass to Owens, 5 yard run by Westbrook, 14 yard pass to Smith, 1 yard pass to Smith, incomplete pass, incomplete pass, missed 50 yard FG attempt

Giants 7th drive: 4 yard run by Barber, End of 1st Half.

Giants 28 Eagles 7

Icon14 Re: Jay's Sliders - Final Release

Okay, I'm going to stop right there. I realise that you should give different sliders a chance, at least 3 or 4 games but I think that these are so bad that it would be pointless. I can see glaring problems that are not the result of the odd abnormal play but are inherently systemic of the sliders themselves. No offense intended by the way, and if anyone out there is enjoying playing with these sliders, then that's great. I just believe they can be greatly improved upon.

Observations.

My strong D line was able to get absolutely no pressure on the Giants QB's. The pancake on Kearse was unbelievable. The CPU Pass Blocking or Human Break Blocks is way out of wack. A very strong D line should not be dominated by a very weak O line. EVER. The result is few if any sacks, and lots of time in the pocket to exploit the abilities of the WRs that are also boosted by these sliders.

Despite the CPU RB ability being high it was still unable to run against me, Barber got 11 yards in 9 attempts. This is because other aspects of the game have a huge bearing on the running game, whereas RB ability actually affects the passing game far more as we shall see in a minute. With human awareness up so high the run is quickly closed down and the back is stopped straight away often by a cb or olb. This is why you won't be getting Ray Lewis in the pro bowl, as your cbs will lead your team in tackles all year as all the tackles will be on WRs after completions as the CPU abandons the run.

It is far better to have a less aware defense that is poor at reading the game playing against a slower less skillful offense. this way mistakes are made up for people are closed down and tackled after receiving the ball. You will get 6 yd play, 5 yd play, 8 yd play, etc.

The other way is to have a very aware defense against super fast offense (RB Ability high) and what will happen is you will get def pass, def pass, 75 yard td.

The awareness of the human team although high is completely overridden in the passing game by the high RB ability which increases WR speed and therefore routes, and their ability to break tackles and basically p**s all over any defensive back. This makes a mockery of the game, lots of 1 play drives, high scoring games, scewed stats, etc.

One more thing. I only completed 56% of passes but if I had just used outs and slants to the TE or Owens I could have passed all day, like I did on the 93 yard drive. It was only when I went down the middle or tried a deeper pass that I had any problems. This made the game very one dimensional and a bit dull. I found the running game to be pretty good though.

I understand that a lot of the aspects of these sliders would take several games to test properly and that maybe some of my comments would be proven unjustified but there are several glaring problems with these sliders that make all further testing pointless.

I hope this criticism is taken in the spirit it is given, I spent quite a while doing this. Creating sliders is a tough job and one that we wouldn't have to do in the first place if EA could be bothered to make the game properly instead of cashing in on the same engine year after year. Anyway lots of people seem to like these sliders so that's good for them.

I have been using a set of sliders for Madden 05 which have given me great results for 2 over 50 games now. They are not perfect by any means and still need some mprovements but they are the best I have used so far. I wouldn't want to highjack anyone else's thread so I'll post them in a seperate thread at a later date.

I hope I haven't taken up too much room here. If nothing else I hope my little test gives you some more data to chew over.

Re: Jay's Sliders - Final Release

Yes please share them in a new thread, you'll get more exposure that way too

I'm fed up with All Madden, no matter which team I choose or verse it ends up being an offensive bomb fest, slider independant. The DB's are just to stupid and to slow, in my last game Pathon off the Saints had 250 yards receiving because he broke free from Winfield of the Vikings twice in a row, and he is one of the best tackling cornerbacks. The same crap happens every game in some shape or form.

Anyway, I challenge anyone to find a set of All madden sliders that will actually get a good human controlled defense a ranking below 25 in the league, because i'm whilling to bet it is impossible.

Re: Jay's Sliders - Final Release

Wow, these sliders are great. I was about to give up on the game after my 18th INT with McNabb (after 7 games). The DB's jumping 10 feet sideways to intercept passes was just too much. Now after 2 games he has thrown only 2 INT's and most of the stats are working out great.

Just 2 problems:
1) I am getting WAY too many INT's. I picked Warner twice and Culpepper FIVE TIMES. Still lost both games though, cause I can't kick to save my life.

2) My defensive players never, ever come out. The only time I've seen a sub is when I've been on the field for a whole 13 play drive, and then my guy makes a huge hit. Even then he only subs out for 1 play.

Any way to fix either of these?

Re: Jay's Sliders - Final Release

Hey Jay, i haven't posted much about your sliders but i have been reading this thread and have tried them out. Just wanted to make a few comments in hopes of helping you out.

First, we think very a like on where we think the sliders should be set. Keep up the nice work. Overall I like what i see, but i think a few things still need some tweaking.

Second, i think pass blocking for both the cpu and human needs to be brought down a bit. While i like the extra time i have to throw and it allows me to make good decisions, the pocket just seems way too big for some reason. I've noticed that a lot of the time there won't be a defensive player within 5 yards when i'm in the pocket and have a good offensive line in front of me.

And one last item, have you noticed full backs and tight ends getting way too many broken tackles and getting too many big plays? I've found that when you boost the cpu running rb ability too much the stronger bigger players become too good. Just wondering if you've noticed the same thing.
