Honestly, Madden 09 the game that's sucked the enthusiasm out of me

I definitely agree with you on the gameplay deficiencies of 05. Those were the exact things that bothered me back then. I always kicked off to give the cpu a chance to establish the run and my MLB often had more picks than the DBs.

When you think about it that is not much to complain about compared to what I see now. Our biggest complaints back then was which game was better and why. 2 great picks back then in 2k5 and madden. I still believe 05 to be the best in gameplay to date....my real complaint is that it is now 4 years later without sufficient competition from the 2K series means I have yet to see improvement in gameplay (from madden) and atmosphere/presentation (from 2K5) from that time.

I think we agree. My original point was that with madden going downhill we often forget that madden also put out some good products once in a while....when they had to look over their shoulders.

Madden 2005 on PS2 with the Manifesto was the best experience I ever had with Madden. That game owned my life for the entire year from release day to when 2006 came out.

Remember during your nostalgic saunter that 2k5/Madden05 was in 2004. So a year earlier even and more things were being done right than today with more to work with.

Did some key members of the development team leave or something? I wonder if any of the current teams have the skills to get it done...with all due respect.

They chose to create a completely new game for next-gen, instead of porting from last gen.

Hindsight is 20/20. Guess that should of ported.

I never did buy the whole "built from the ground up" bs. If that was the case, then why did the first next gen Madden still have the same "shot in the back" animation, the same Mario Running, the same lousy OL/DL interaction, etc. They might've fooled some people with that line, but not me.

It was "built from the ground up" if you want to be technical.

But being technical and looking at the result should tell you the whole story. This was "built from the ground up" much like 2k's MLB game back in... 2k6? 2k7? They claimed the same thing.

In madden 05 did the NFL teams play like their real NFL counterparts? If I remember correct Madden plays a decent game of football(I rate a 6), but it never actually emulated the real NFL teams.

I think that this is the one thing that people over look or do not realize about NFL 2k5. This is what set 2k5 apart and what has carried this game for as long as it has. It actually feels like you are playing different NFL type teams in NFL 2k5.(I rate an 8)

Well, either way you look at it football gaming has not been the same and the only game in town needs to reinvent the NFL game for consoles. Football games use to be system sellers, but now they are on the back burner to FPS and MUSIC games!
