Do you want me here or not? I'm going out of my way to keep you guys in the loop and make sure we're all involved...and what do you do? Say things like "I get the feeling Ian is not a true football guy". Posts like this make me want to go dark and not create another post here. Tell me...is that would you'd prefer? Apparently you shouldn't have to tell me anything anyway, so why am I here? And you directly contradict yourself by saying you are concerned with the game "we want"...why do you not want to be involved in providing feedback for the game "we want"? You assume I have to know and deliver all of it already I guess?

Of course I know what a spin move should look like and how the crowd should react. I also know what a pocket looks like, and anything else you might mention. Just because we know what things look like doesn't mean they can automatically be executed. That's why not every Joe Gamer off the street can be a game designer...you have to figure out how to implement things.

Sheesh.
Ian,
i stated several times how i appreciate you being here.. but that doesn't mean I have to see eye to eye with you or how the Madden franchise has been handled, or bow down and just agree with everything you say or do.

and

Your telling me that even though you know how football is supposed to look doesn't mean it can be implemented in the game.. yet Tiburon implemented a lot of this in previous Maddens, and that "other" game implemented these things as well, so its not like I am making out of this world demands.

Haven't you seen what has happened to Madden over the last few years? and can't you understand why so many people are skeptical now?
Rather than threaten to leave and get all mad, why don't you try to win the skeptics over, and tell me you understand where i am coming from based on the direction of the game over the last few years.

Your Gameplay "System" needs fixed, better???????

Everyone has to refer to it as whatever you think it is or it will be overlooked.

Ian right, everyone else wrong.
I don't know why you're getting so defensive...I still have no clue what you want fixed.

It's very obvious to me why people are skeptical...of course. FYI - I worked on those old Madden versions as well. But you have to understand it's quite insulting to just sit back and tell me you don't think I have any football knowledge, and to state your reason for saying so is because I'm here ON MY OWN TIME asking directly for YOUR feedback.

Ok let me try to help out.
Your current "Animation Engine-ANT" Needs to be replaced I dont doubt your a die hard SIM fanatic as much as some of us are BUT Personally I dont think you can achieve that with your current ANT.... hence the comment that engine needs to be scrapped!
Now the "Physics Engine" This is the biggest problem and I quote "This engine is proprietary and custom to Madden only." Please realize you have had 4/5 years of next gen use of this system and sorry for a lack of a better term it sucks! And if this is the same one for last-gen also then you guys(EA) has had 10+ years with it! Again you cant get SIM football out of this "Physics Engine".
"AI / Assignment Engine" - " Another proprietary system, since this is obviously specific to football" See above problem...... same problem different application.

Hope this helps Ian.................

now, I never said you don't have any football knowledge, only that I have doubts on whether you are a true football guy first, developer 2nd..
Thats just my gut feeling based on the need for us having to tell you guys what has been missing from Madden next gen.

Hey, if I am wrong about that, then thats my problem,

And We are both here on our own time by the way..

You wouldn't, that's why Madden is what it is today. You corrected me with the word "system" before. Yet you still have no idea.

You being here is as pointless as going to the bar to drink water...

Re: Im feeling really good about Madden 2010 and so should you!

I think a lot of the people's complaints here are that we all know there is no true competition for Madden. EA bought all the rights up from the NFL and all that goodness...its not unrealitic for people that have played older games on old systems to like what those games had it in and become frustrated in the fact that hell even NES Play action football had a chain gang animation in the game and that game is what 20 years old? You are by all means going out of your way to to get input and it should make people happy but it never will. We as gamers have become very complacent the past few years with the horrible Madden next gen games that felt like one step forward as far as graphic but two steps back in gameplay/presentation. You have to realize that many of us that love sports video gaming are never happy and when you can go back to a game almost 4 years old (NFL 2K5) and would rather play it because of the overall gameplay experience it raises questions.

I disagree. ANT is more advanced than any animation engine in the industry. We can continue to build on this the engine and make animation improvements geared towards "SIM" gameplay without a problem.

I think we can get SIM football but we obviously can't get realtime tackles like Backbreaker. IMO the jury is still out to see if the technology can produce realistic (i.e. SIM) results. My personal opinion is that we need a combination of realtime physics solution (to solve limb interpenetration) and motion capture (so you don't have any NFL players looking like dead bodies). So you may be right...might need a new engine here eventually...but I think this would be a step-by-step approach instead of a full-on rewrite.

I don't think you want the whole engine re-written...just a few modules could use an overhaul (blocking, CPU play-calling, defensive front/blitz/coverage are maybe a few). We obviously want more 'learning' systems and those could be created on top of our current 'engine' now as well.

That did, thank you much.
