Re: Can I get an official word on this?

I made "Second & Four" and "Tussle in Tampa" with the 360 version because in 09, the replays looked so much cooler. This year though, I'm rolling with the PS3.

Yes, Ian mentioned a framerate issue during replay - but I'm hoping that's only if I let it "play" at full speed. ( Is that so, Ian? )

If so I can live with that - I hardly ever watch a replay at full speed. For me it's all about slow motion glory, watching all the things unfold that made my cool play even possible. It takes all Eleven but in instant replay I like to watch the other Ten.

Now all I need is a way to capture HD video while playing. I've got a feeling an HD PVR is gonna become my new filmmaking friend. With the new depth of field effect, I can't wait to shoot some machinima with Madden NFL 10. Hopefully they didn't change how Instant Replay works too much - I'd be out of a hobby.

I own both systems too and will probably go with ps3. I have grown very fond of my ps3 and like the controller better. I also think its much more reliable. I also have a psp, so getting madden 10 psp is a strong possibilty for me as I have madden 09 on it and enjoy it a lot.

Own all systems and luckily most of my friends have both systems too. With that being said it's 360 for me.

PS3 has slightly less memory available in game than 360. Though both ship with the same amount of memory (512 MB), the XMB eats up a little bit more than the 360 blade stuff. Since all PS3's are also guaranteed to have a hard drive (unlike 360), we stream the replay data straight to the PS3 hard drive as the play is being run instead of streaming it to memory (like we do on 360). Unfortunately, writing 60 frames per second to the hard drive in realtime is a performance hit and will end up causing hitching and gameplay framerate loss, so sometimes we have to skip a frame or two (depending on what is happening on screen and how long the replay is) to ensure we don't screw up the normal gameplay experience. Since the replay buffer on the hard drive now has less frames, it has less fidelity when you play it back.

On the actual gameplay side of things, is the frame rate identical on both systems?

I own both systems , and still trying to decide. I'm leaning towards the 360 only because online play is much smoother for me on the 360.

Thanks in Advance.

That's a really cool bit of behind the scenes technical info. Thanks Ian.

Re: Can I get an official word on this?

Yeah, 360 = 512MB RAM shared between system and video.
PS3 = 256MB dedicated video, 256MB dedicated system.

What that means is that the 360 can apply more RAM to the video card if needed. The PS3 caps at 256MB.
