To be fair, it makes sense; sounds like they used a signed int of 11 bits to handle yardage to me (allowing for +-1023 yards), which you would think would be plenty to work with. I'm actually surprised the yardage didn't overflow back to negative numbers when you exceeded that amount...

Sounds like a memory storage thing. They're giving you 10 bits of integer precision, not sure if they store that information as a float or not. Do you get fractional values? They'd also need a sign bit to account for negative rushes, so who knows.

I'm rusty on my IEEE knowledge so I'm not sure what the max value of a signed float is, otherwise they're probably storing additional information in those variables and bit shifting to get to your 11 bits of storage.
