Hi there...
I got a PS4 a few weeks back and picked up NBA 2K14. I am a stickler for realistic gameplay and stats (in fact I actually tune sliders partly based on the stats I'm getting), so before embarking on my 76ers MyGM, finding a solid slider set was mandatory.
To be honest, I wasn't quite satisfied with the slider sets currently available on OS. Don't get me wrong, there are some good sets depending on what you're looking for and how you play, but there was nothing that suited
how I play! Believe me, as a slider creator (MLB 2K13 and NCAA 2K14 most recently) I know how tough it can be to come out with a good set, so kudos to everyone who has taken the time to share their sliders and results/theories. But, since some of you might also be in the same boat as me, and still looking for sliders that work for you, I am posting my tweaked and tested set in the hopes that you find them useful--at least as a good base set. A few major points:
This game is terrible, awful, and unplayable (from a gameplay POV anyway) without proper sliders, but even a heroic slider effort cannot rid this game of all its flaws and being non-responsive. I mean kudos to 2K for giving us such a great deal of control and button combos, but the game is way over-animated and you know the feeling you get when there are double jumps and lunges for steals seemingly 2-3 seconds after pressing the buttons--that can't be fixed. So, while these sliders are really helpful, please don't expect miracles. The lazy Sunday passes, perimeter defenders chasing their own tails at times, and the meant-to-pump-fake-but-tapping-the-shoot-button-is-making-you-shoot-anyway stuff is still there.
That said, this is a set I'm proud of.
- I have chosen Superstar difficulty because let's face it HOF, while challenging, is not remotely realistic. If you want your hair to go gray early, then I suggest HOF difficulty--the cpu cheese is overwhelming. I find Superstar is the best mix of competitive and not uber cheesy. And I always have a compulsion to play on the hardest difficulty, so it was not an easy decision!
- I have found a way to actually get 20+ FTs a game...for both teams! It's not just in the foul sliders, but in the contact frequency sliders. If there's no contact, it doesn't matter if the foul sliders are straight maxed out, the whistle won't blow.
- I am big on looking at the shot charts at the end of the game to help tweak the cpu tendencies. I have used that to really hone in on what I think is a more authentic mix of outside shooting/attacking/midrange game/post play. I hate it when the cpu only attacks or only jacks up jumper after jumper--so this is a must for me. Also, since the cpu reacts to your POE, there will be a lot of variety from game to game even with the cpu offensive tendency sliders staying the same. I have seen the cpu change offensive strategy the very next possession after you change your defensive POE.
Without further ado...
