Or do you want a much more realistic approach?

Not at all. I’m saying that I would rather the outcome of the play not be affected by things like clipping and sliding. If an arm goes through an arm, it’s not really an issue. But if a hand goes through someone’s chest and knocks the ball loose or blocks a shot, or a well timed steal doesn’t count because the hand went through the ball, that’s where I have a problem.

Obviously I would prefer if clipping, morphing, sliding, etc. didn’t exist, but I am also trying to be realistic in terms of what is possible in general and what is possible in a single development cycle.

That was his point.

here's the thing. It makes sense for a fan of a game that has been subpar for years to let other subpar things go since he/she is only looking for progress. its like watching a team full of a 2nd year players on a nba team. that first year we sucked and won 15 games out of 82. year 2 we still suck but we should win 22 games and be happy with the progression. thats nba live.

2K however, is the GSW's. You as a fan should never just say "oh well thats not that bad..when you know it is and give a pass to the reigning champion/MVP"

To be the top you have to not only beat the comp. You have to continue to figure out how to beat yourself. Life and times of a champ.
We had this same discussion over in the NBA Live forum regarding clipping in their game....and my comment there was identical to what I've said here.

That's the last I'll comment on NBA LIVE because their current game has nothing to do with the subject at hand, nor can anything in that game solve 2k's clipping issues...

As far as 2k goes, no one here has said they enjoy clipping and hope its here to stay, they just understand that it's going to be a process as their new animation system evolves...that point has been spelled out as clear as possible. I'm not sure what you are arguing against here.. If they can even improve some of it with patch work this year that'd be great...but I doubt theres a 'absolutely no clipping' button they are just laying off of pressing....it will take time..

You're defending me. I'm about to go hard right. You already knew this, so you hop back a step or 2 but at that angle to cut my right angle off. But what if...I magically went thru Most of your body, not just a smidget of you. but MOST of your body then beat you to the basket for a score?

How would you feel about that? I would know first hand that I didnt get by you. I went thru you with some form of magic. magic is cute but it aint basketball.

clipping happens in every single game. but this level of clipping is a bit much for 2k who has done a lot better in the past.

If that was happening in the game, then yes, it’s definitely a major issue. But we’re not talking about the defender being in position and the ball handler going through most of his body. We’re talking about an arm clipping a face or two faces clipping because the defender is too close and there’s no animation to account for it yet.

As I said before, as long as you can’t objectively look at the play and say, “if that wouldn’t have happened, the outcome would have been different,” then it is ok for the time being.

i agree with your premise. but again to the above bolded. The videos posted by the OP show exactly that. It's now just that we the human players get to do it to others vs them doing it to us on defense.

You how have half of your body thru half the defenders body so you can get THRU him not BY him. thats not realistic at all. thats just as bad as a defender fake stripping you by going thru your back and chest like you're some type of ghost.

Just because its more fun the way it is now doesnt mean it isnt just as bad in all reality. It is just as bad.

but the bolded is exactly what the OP showed. If it wasnt for that ridiculous clipping. The offensive player would not have gone around his man. He would've bump the defenders body. imagine if that happens to you while you're playing excellent defense on a driver. You will feel just as cheated.

I didn’t see any examples like that in the OP. I saw minor clipping like faces going through each other when the defender was too close. In the plays he showed, the ball handler would realistically get by based on the defender’s reaction.

what? are you serious ? Did you not see austin rivers turn the wrong way and run directly into the defend while half... let me say it again. HALF of rivers' body was thru the defender. HALF. He then went thru the defender and kept going. Thats not just a little arm clipping here and there. that one with the guy curling off ball. we can let that slide. the others... no way.

how many times has 2k nerfed something because either people complained about it or they found it to be less realistic. So they took it all the way out of the game, which then means thats unrealistic because that move that they took out is a real life move. it was just overpowered in the previous 2k. instead of them taking some of its power away. they made a decision to get rid of it altogether. This happens with other gaming companies as well. Thats always an option when developing a new game. But the proper way to do it to bring about the most realistic looking/playing game is to address the issue at hand. dont nerf the over done brick wall holdem defense animation and then open up the clipping with the offensive player to go THRU bodies so in fast motion most players wont notice and think"ooo that was a nice drive. I love how this new 2k gives me more freedom." not slowing the game down to find out they were made a ghost and so was their defender so they could get by easier.
