...and probably fictional players. Anything resembling simulation NFL football is a risk, both of litigation and of the relationship that's finally been re-established with the NFL.

Which means it's the same game they could have made themselves at any point post-2k8 and haven't.

No, unfortunately it wouldn't.

No, they have a separate agreement with the NFLPA. There is no more risk of litigation from using real current players than there was when they used the Legends in APF2k8.

Legally they can do it no problem. Current players and micro transactions are something that they didn’t have in 2k8 that would make the game more successful financially.

It really comes down to upsetting the NFL after just getting back in their good graces and that’s the real problem that makes me certain it’s going to be a my park/my city type game instead of a new APF. Only way they go with a new APF is if the NFL green lights it. Maybe as a way to let 2k show them what their studio is capable for a future open NFL simulation license. But still unlikely to me.

Re: Allpro football would sell this time

I'm more confidant than ever it is going to be an APF2K8 type game, but with current players, NFL branding, and no way on earth you can recreate the NFL league rosters and schedule.

The reason they will do this now, as opposed over the last 13 years they didn't release a follow up is that with NFL players and logos, they can run an MUT type mode which will make it easier for the game to generate a profit.

I mean, no one actually knows. But we know 2K paid for access to NFL players and NFL logos, and they can't do an NFL simulation. What can you do that is not an NFL simulation but uses NFL logos and players?

The problem for this particular forum has is that the game that the most likely game coming from 2K is exactly everything that people hate about Madden. So we see a ton of really weird theories, like them using fictional players or leagues.

APF2K8 was a sim game. That can no longer be done.

Yet, we don't even know what "simulation" entails within the confines of this deal.

We'll probably find out in a few months what they'll be releasing & if it'll be a MyPark, a All-Pro football spiritual sequel, a NFL Playgrounds - type game or something entirely different.

Whatever it is it'll probably have some microtransaction mechanics & that can be iterated on.

I know we want to think they can get creative and create an alternative to Madden but is anyone truly, actually buying that?

They can't make a simulation game. Not something close to a real representation of an 11 on 11 football game in the way we want to see it.

If they wanted to do that, they could have done it for years up until getting the license with the NFL and the NFLPA.

Any chance of an actual simulation football representation went out of the window with those agreements.

Doing it without any licensing would be complete suicide financially, so they sat on their hands until they could get some form of licensing.

Now, you are correct they can't make a NFL simulation because of the restrictions of the licensing agreement. They could, if they feel it'll be financially lucrative, make an All-Pro Football sequel that doesn't directly compete with Madden or hurt their current agreement with the NFL.

They'll need to get real creative or seriously tap into the casual audience to make any strictly "arcade" title lucrative.

I think it is also a bit naive to believe they'll be content with just picking up the "arcade" scraps & don't have bigger plans in mind.

Thankfully, we'll find out in a matter of months & the speculation will finally cease.
