I was thinking about doing position rating based on where the teams ranked in the league.
For Example is your team was #1 in Passing Offense your QB and WR rating would be 99. #2 would be 95 and working backwards in increments of 4 down to the #32 passing offense....OL would be an average of their ranking in pass and run offense. DL and LB run/pass avg ranking. DBs pass ranking. RBs Rush ranking. K by Points and FG pct. P by punt avg ranking....These ranking would be given to all coaches involved in the ranking. So for example #1 in Pass Offense, the HC, OC, and QB coach, would all get a 99 ranking in QB Rating. The WR coach would get a 99 in WR Rating along with the HC and OC. Does that make sense?
What do you guys think of that format?

I read that raising the play call aggressiveness helps the games be more competitive what do you guys think about that?

Not sure how to rate things like performance (the last 3 seasons record?), Ethics and Chemistry - no idea how to handle - maybe generic across the board
Motivation - How do you judge how good someone is at motivating the team
Knowledge - How long they been in the league and wins?

I would love to hear others thoughts on these things. I am totally open to suggestions.

Some of these you need to look at the questionnaire to answer like personality and schemes. They are listed in the questionnaire if you do not know them already.

LET THE CONVERSATION BEGIN!
Thank you all in advance for your input.

I agree with your thought process. I would do the top list of questions per actual ranking. If it is easier for now, maybe you just make everyone a default 50? Would make the game harder I would think if that is the goal, as everyone would be on par, and the user would be at a disadvantage if they create a coach.

I would do the same for the other skills. If you just put everyone at a 3 then there is room for growth, and then everyone probably has a shot at being good. Thoughts?

My main thought is it gets us the roster sooner!

Honestly that is one of the biggest challenges with this game for a project like this. The game is SOOOO deep that you can drive yourself crazy thinking about everything. Games like madden are easy bc it is just the players, where NFLHC09 has ALL the coaches in addition and you can edit everything down to their birth certificate basically lol.

Personally I don't care as much about most of the coaches as a lot are still coaching in NCAA or NFL, so could be viable coaches. Personally I care more about updated rosters. That is just me though. Others may feel differently.

Either way, thank you so much for all of your hard work!

Also another potential idea to make the game harder is to give every coach ambition. Then the opposing teams can upgrade their special skills faster as they get skill points slower

QUICK UPDATE: 4/9/20

So I was able to do a TON of research last night.
I was able to complete the entire Bears Staff in about an hour and a half and this is with stopping to research things. So I am thinking I can do a coaching staff in about 45mins to an hour. So My goal will be to complete 4-5 teams a day and be done with all the coaches in about a week.

That means next week I can start rosters.

OS because I have now bookmarked and noted most of the coach info I need I just need a few items of feedback from the community:

1. Team's Offensive Playbook
2. Team's Defensive Playbook
3. Team's Coverage Philosophy
4. Team's Blitz Philsophy
5. Head Coach's Personality

Everything I have been able to gather and will start inputting ASAP.

Thanks on any feedback or discussion on these 5 items.

COACHING CANDIDATES:

I have some room to add more coaches as possible future hires.
Any Suggestions?

I already have coaches like Lincoln Riley, Bob Stoops, Herm Edwards, Lovie Smith, Chip Kelly, and a few others that will be available as Free Agent Coaches?

If anyone else wants to give me any suggestions on any hot commodity coaches to add let me know.

As a Bucs fan, make Lovie a negative overall lol jk.

That is awesome! I may add Derrick Brooks as a potential gm. I know that some teams were interested in him this offseason especially with Lynch’s success. Not sure if you can keep his portrait or not since he becomes a coach later on.

Bruce Arians:

Bengals Vertical Pass
Patriots Pressure
Man Coverage
Blitz Heavy
Commander

I would put same for Leftwich and Bowles.

I'd consider adding some recently retired players as free agent position/coordinators or even GM candidates. I don't know if you can adjust the rarity for certain free agents, but it would be really cool to see somebody like Peyton Manning emerge as a rare future HC or OC candidate. I loved when Madden used to do that.
