Re: 2022 gaming plans

With PC/XBox Game Pass and PS Plus Extra, I don't think there's ever been a better time to be a non-sports gamer. Only downside is that everyone will always have a crazy backlog with so many games to choose.

2022 Games Currently Playing

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (PS5 Plus -- Hard)
Deathloop (PC Game Pass).
Eden Ring (PC) – Level 50. Got burned out on it after being completely addicted when it first arrived.
Far Changing Tide (PC Game Pass)
Far Cry 6 (PS5 – Hard). Love the Far Cry series but I’m finding this one a bore.
Forza Horizon 5 (PC Game Pass)
Immortals Fenyx Rising (PS4 – Hard). The puzzles are fun.
Ori and the Blind Forest (PC Game Pass)
Ratchet and Clank (PS5). Not feeling it. Came with the PS5
Spiderman (PS4 Plus -- Amazing Level)
Watch Dogs 2 (PS4 Plus)

Wish List

Cyperpunk 2077. I’m going to get the PC version soon. Probably after I finish Deathloop.
Disco Elysium Feel like I need to complete some other 2D games like Tyranny and Divinity: Original Sin 2 before picking it up.
Dying Light 2
God of War Ragnarok
Horizon Zero 2 Forbidden West
Sniper Elite 5

Games Finished in 2022 (Only 3!)

Stray (PS5)
– Best Game ever about being a cat. Yes, it’s a very tiny genre. It had actually an engaging story, some decent puzzles and an interesting art style. I don’t think it would have worth a full price but definitely a great value with a PS Plus membership. (6.5/10)

Last of Us 2 (PS5/PS4 – Hard – Platinum Trophy) – It gets a lot of hate here but I loved it. Showing the events of the first game from a different perspective was brilliant. So many emotional and memorable scenes. The part in the rocket ship was amazing.
Nevermind the astonishing graphics on the PS5, the sound -- and the importance of sound in the gameplay -- was unlike anything I've ever experienced in a game. Definitely a Heart of Darkness feel to the main story with the descent into maddening violence. (10/10)

Watch Dogs (PS4 – Hard -- 93.8 per cent, Level 50) –Always a great feeling to complete a game that was on the backlog for years. I think I started this in 2016 or 2017. The police chases at the start of the game on hard level were relentless and turned me off. It wasn’t until I got some skills that allowed me to evade the police that I returned to the game. Interesting fresh story and many have commented about how it’s a modern day Assassin’s Creed. I always enjoy a good puzzle in a game rather than gun fighting so I enjoyed the hacking and many of the mini games like the drinking games. Chicago was an interest setting. Definitely looking forward to get Watch Dogs 2. (9/10)

Backlog Monster (tm)

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey: (PC -- Hard) – Level 34, 28 per cent completed
Detroit: Become Human (PS4) – Completed Chapter: Zlatko
Divinity: Original Sin 2 (PC) – Level 2
Fallout 4 (PC -- Hard) -- Level 48
God of War (PS4 -- Completed; Playing for Remaining Trophies)
Greedfall (PS4 – Hard) – Level 5
Hitman (PS4) – Paris Mission Complete
Horizon Forza 5 – (PC Game Pass -- Normal) -- Level 16
Immortals Fenyx Rising (PS4 -- Hard)
Ni No Kung II: Revenant Kingdom (PS4) – Chapter Two
Tyranny (PC -- Hard) – Level 6
Vampyr (PS4 – Hard) – Chapter 2, Level 5
Yakuza Kiwami (PS4 -- Normal) – 14.06 per cent

Sports Games

FIFA 22 (PS5) – Manchester United (4-1-2)
FIFA 20 (PS4) – Fulham (13-1-1 in Championship)
FIFA 19 (PS4) – PSG (Second Season: 6-0-1, Won SuperCup)
NHL 19 (PS4) – Toronto (1-7). Holy cow am I bad.
MLB 21 (PS5) – Toronto (15-10), Buffalo (9-12)
MLB 20 (PS4) – Montreal (21-7)
MLB 19 (PS4) – Milwaukee (28-28)
MLB 17 (PS4) – NY Mets (10-13)
MLB 16 (PS4) – Toronto (48-39)
MLB 15 (PS4) --Washington (41-44)
MLB 14 (PS3) -- Los Angeles (25-15)
(I Play on All-Star level, every pitch

The old MLB games really hold up well even years later. Such a great series

Going to just start this with games rather than trying to list like release dates and such.

Horizon FW, Zelda BOTW 2 are my top 2 I am looking forward to the most. If BOTW 2 don't get delayed it will likely be my 2022 game of the year if it does get pushed to 2023 than Horizon FW will likely be my game of the year for 2022. Also look forward to the other following games.

Suicide squad kill the justice league, Gotham knights kind of worried about this one with them basically changing the combat system completely that was such a big reason that the batman arkham games where so amazing, Splatoon 3, TMNT shredders revenge, GOW Ragnarok, Kirby and the forgotten land, Lego star wars Skywalker saga, forspoken.

Thats 10 games so far and there may be some games I am forgetting or that will be announced soon that I may end up wanting to get but so far that's how things are looking.
dude very cool post thanks for the support on the forum

Re: 2022 gaming plans

2022 games currently playing:

So much for no new sports games LOL.....

NBA2K23 - GOAT. Yep....it is. Period. End of story. My Era Mode is amazing. Playing a Jordan Era Trail Blazer franchise and a Magic/Bird Lakers franchise. Will also play a Miami Heat Kobe Era franchise. This game owns my should for years to come.

Madden 23 - Year 3 of our Dolphins franchise and despite some really bad warts (that will not be fixed iMO) we are having fun with it. I don’t see it being a long term game though.

MLB 20 - The legend continues with this timeless classic. I love everything about this game.

Madden 16 - Year 6 Dolphins franchise and various classic roster season replays (86,90,99)

NCAA 14 - Playmakers All-Time Roster Miami Hurricanes Dynasty Coach Mode and a brand new 2022 Dynasty with updated rosters TBD (Coach Mode).

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order - 65% completed- having an absolute blast with this gem on the PS5. A beautiful well made single player Star Wars game. EA being the publisher is even more mind-blowing LOL.

I actually do not know what else will be in the Que after I finish Star Wars. Will have to think about my mood at that time.

Re: 2022 gaming plans

Time for an update.

Sports Games:

Purchased:

NBA 2k23: Amazing game, best in the series by far. And the best sports game of 2022.

Madden 23: After giving it a solid attempt, I gave up on it because of the save file corruption bug. I have actually set down all football gaming right now.

MLB 22 The Show: I have been playing this a bit again after setting it down back in June.

I have finally broken my sports game buying trend by not purchasing NHL 23. I haven’t bought FIFA in forever, though I did get 22 free on PS Plus but haven’t done anything with it.

Currently Playing:

NBA 2k23 (PS5): I am having a blast with this game. This is the one sports purchase in 2022 that I have enjoyed. I have been playing a few different franchises here or there, but finally decided on playing one that goes with my gameplay style. Honestly, I am also having an amazing time crafting fictional draft classes.

MLB 20 (PS5): Still the best baseball game ever. Top 5 sports game of all time as well.

Planned Sports Purchases in 2023:

None. I broke my buying trend. I will only get sports games if they go free on PS Plus. I am done buying Madden, NHL, and MLB. NBA 2k23 is an amazing game and it will last me a long time so there is no need for me to continue on with that game. If PGA goes on sale, I may pull the trigger on the PC, just for the course designer aspect, as it was harder to do small detail with a controller. But in the end, it is important that I have finally broken my buying trend.

Non-Sports Gaming:

PC gaming:

I ended up buying a gaming PC back in June. I have made some progress on a few games:

Cities Skylines: My goal was to make a city with the highest population I ever had. I reached 94,000 citizens in my city. I learned a lot about creating good infrastructure and public transport. I look to top this number when I found my 2023 city on January 1.

Project Highrise: I successfully created a profitable 100 story tower. This is a fun game and reminds me of Sim Tower from many moons ago.

GearCity: My goal is to reach the farthest I have after starting in 1900. I am currently in 1949, which is the highest I have ever gotten in the game. The goal was to get further than I ever have before and I did that. Beating my record of 1941 previously.

The above is 3 of my 3 needed goals for PC gaming. They aren't big goals in PC gaming but they are met nonetheless. The 5 months without a PC let me enjoy my PS5 but I am glad PC gaming is back in my hobby time. I have been playing some other PC games, but haven’t had any other significant goals or milestones yet in those.

Beat 3 games in 2022:

Horizon Forbidden West (PS5): An amazing game. Easily a 9.5/10 here. I am at about 75% completion and have to go back and finish all of the side content.

God of War (PS4): 8.5/10. I had played this twice previously, not getting very far either time. It had felt too linear to me. I am looking forward to Ragnarok after beating this. My third time through and it was a great playing game with an amazing story. I haven’t beaten a lot of the side content but I finished the story and I am ready to play Ragnarok come November.

Batman Arkham City (PS4): 7/10. I definitely enjoyed the story and it played a solid game. Beat the first 2 in the Arkham series now. I will likely be starting Arkham Knight in 2023.

I met this goal. It felt unattainable for a while this year but I did make it.

Re-beat 1 final fantasy:

Final Fantasy 9: Best one in the series. I have lost track of how many times I have played and beat this.

Upcoming Purchases in 2022:

God of War Ragnarok (PS5): After playing through God of War, this is a day 1 buy for me. Plus, it is more open world to boot. Going to be a great game. I wouldn't be surprised if this is game 4 I beat in 2022.

Still Progressing:

Elden Ring

Ghost of Tsushima

Pokemon Sword (Switch): My younger son said I couldn’t beat it so now I am in the middle of it. I only play when he wants to watch me. Mostly so he can know it all to me. Awkward being know it all’d by a know it all. Normally I am the one being the know it all.

Some Games I have that I want to play:

This is not being called a backlog as my goal is not to get through all of it. It is a list of games that look good to me that I own that I want to play or finish eventually maybe. Some of these I have started but not touched in 2022 so they are here.

Greedfall PS4
Assassins Creed Valhalla PS5
The Division 2 (story) PS4
Guardians of the Galaxy PS5
Biomutant PS5
Batman Arkham Knight PS4
World of Final Fantasy PS4
The Witcher 3 PS4
Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4
The Outer Worlds PS4

New Gaming Goal:

YouTube/Twitch: So, my 9-year-old son challenged me to make a YouTube channel and to stream more often. This is something I am starting and hope to have some fun with. Most likely will be just starting streaming as that doesn’t need to be video edited. Will be expanded on in 2023.

Assessment:

Overall, despite a slow start to my gaming goals, I am calling year 2 of my personal gaming goals another success. I look forward to seeing how my year 3 goals go. I have a few ideas but won't have anything concrete until late December.

I really want to get back into Skylines and build a nice city that's set in the past, but the loading times and stability issues kill me. I don't even use that many mods either, but I do use a healthy amount of custom assets. I am really hoping a sequel is announced soon and it is built to really handle playing with many custom assets.

Games I currently am playing

Rimworld - I've really gotten back into this with the recent DLC. I still have never even come close to actually ever getting a colony off the planet and I really don't care. I truly enjoy playing the game just to see how terribly everything can unfold. I have a colony that is going well right now, it just recently healed after tough raid, and once everyone was healthy I sent a few hunters out to go get some Muffalos and the herd got aggressive, so I had all hands on deck to fight the herd and had a few colonists get some significant injures, but no limbs were lost, only one pinky finger on my primary cook/doctor. Everyone is healing up from that encounter, but we have plenty of meat now, so hopefully things die down.

The planet I am on is colder than normal and the biome I am in is a coastal biome that is permanently winter, so I cannot grow my own food outside. We have a decent little hydroponics area that is developing and making things easier, but my colony went from the standard 3 person start to 8 colonists in the first year and that quick expansion made it hard to keep up with food supply, but at least 3 of my people are able to hunt and they do it well.

Mafia 3 - I am replaying this game. The gameplay is repetitive and the AI needed more work, but I absolutely love how well done the story and cinematics are. The atmosphere is amazing and the map is extremely well made. Everything about this game aside from some of the rushed gameplay is an A+ in my opinion.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II - This wasn't even a game I had planned to look into. I played the beta and got hooked. It is very close to feeling like the older games I played as a teenager. Once the stability issues get ironed out I'll be pumping plenty of time into this game with friends. It's a blast when it doesn't crash. Very pretty game also.

Overwatch 2 - Very relaxing game to play. Never really thought I would get into this series, but I had friends convince me to get the 1st game earlier this year and it honestly is a nice change of pace and a lot of fun when you kick back and play it casually.

Games I am looking forward to

Mafia 2 - Another replay. I always replay this game around Christmas. The beginning of the game takes place at Christmas time and really nails the winter/Christmas atmosphere. It's left a lasting memory for me and I always get in the mood to play it around that time of year. It doesn't hurt that the game is a good one.

Madden 23 - If they can finally fix the franchise issues I can finally start a franchise over halfway into the season. We'll see if EA can pull off what is sadly a miracle for them these days.

The Witcher 2 - I beat the first Witcher within the last year, and the gameplay was painful at times. I am needing to play through the second one now so I can be ready to finally play through the third game all the way once the remasters/upgraded/whatever version is released soon.

Watch Dogs Legion - I never got far into this one and am looking to play it start to finish once I complete my current play through of Mafia 3. The stability issues at launch pushed me away and I know they've polished the game since then, so I am excited to see if this beautiful game runs any better these days.

Not really any newer games listed here. I need to actually look and see what is coming because I honestly don't know. With GamePass I have begun buying less games, and as a person I've honestly started buying less games and just replay the games I really enjoyed, like the Mafia games listed above, and have been happy doing this, and so has my wallet, but I still always get the itch every now and then to get something new. Recently buying Modern Warfare II has scratched that itch for now, but I really wish a good open world game coming soon.

Cities skylines: I don't use any custom assets. I only use a few mods. The one game I use mods for. TMPE, Harmony, Precision Engineering, Chirpy exterminator, All 25 areas purchasable, and Network Extension 2 are the extent of those mods I use.

RimWorld: I played the heck out of this game when it was in early access but haven't played it for a few years. A great game but I stink at it so it was a lot of dying in it.

I don't use too many more mods than that, but I was using thousands of custom assets because I really don't like the vanilla buildings. The game struggles with custom assets, which I get, but I am hoping with how popular the modding scene is, and how much the devs prop the mod community up that whenever the 2nd game comes out it will function better with that many mods. It would also be great if the vanilla game had a larger pool of assets, and they looked more realistic.

That's the beauty of Rimworld lol. I will be fine with never ever actually beating the game. The struggle and stories that develop are so much fun for me to watch.
