Tottenham start the 2020/21 season at home against Watford. Stlducks is forced to place Eric Dier in midfield as the club waits for ongoing transfer negotiations to be completed. The standard 4-2-3-1 for Spurs against Watford's 5-3-2 formation.
Tottenham applied pressure the first 15 minutes of the match with crosses coming in from Atal on the right side, Dele Alli and Harry Kane each had their chance at the opening goal but missed headers high.
The opening goal did come from Spurs when Son sent a low cross into the box that took a deflection off Watford captain
Mariappa and went into his own net.
Watford held on the end of the first half to keep it 1-0 at the break. The second half started with Watford the more attacking side and keeping Spurs back on their heels. Hugo Lloris was called upon to come up with two big saves with Sarr had close range chances. Lloris was able to make the double save before Vertoghen cleared the box.
Sarr did get his goal with only minutes to spare, in the 87' Sarr headed a chance but Lloris made a diving save. The rebound came to the middle of the box where Sarr reacted quicker than Vertonghen or Alderweireld and finished his chance.
