As for Matt Stover having that much pull, well it shouldn't matter what position or status the person has. I mean look at baseball and Curt Flood. He was a pretty good player but not a huge star yet his case opened the floodgates (pun not intended) for modern free agency.
Slightly OT, but which players were the NFL's equivalent of Flood? I remember Webster Slaughter but no one else.

Seriously though, if this leads to better negotiations between the NFL and NFLPA, and thus no work stoppage / strike / situation where the NFL isn't playing games, then I'm all for it.

I don't want that, it could mean missing some games or a season

I say go with Steve Young, QB/Esq. That or MassNole, I will gladly lead the NFLPA.

I wish people would get together and oust David Stern, but oh well.

Don't know what else to say about this.

I have always wondered that myself. To be the biggest sport in America they have the worst players union of the Big 3 (baseball, basketball, and football).

Why do people say it's the worst union? The players are well compensated and there has not been a work stoppage in over 20 years, meaning the players have been consistently working for this time.

Well unguaranteed contracts is by far the biggest reason. And as a whole both professional baseball players and basketball players are making more money.
