I just have no earthly idea why the players association would want a former player running the NFLPA. Get a freaking professional in the position, that won't let the owners run all over them.

They should always move toward better protection but getting paid more doesn't protect them more. The amount of money the league makes doesn't really matter. They have A LOT more people to employ than the other sports so you can't compare. Football players make enough money to make them want to play football instead of trying to go into another profession, so they make enough. There's nothing to stop them from walking. I agree with doing whatever they can to protect them now and if they have a career ending injury though.

They make enough... but they could and should be making more. And they would if they would get away from hiring former players who are under qualified to run the NFLPA.

And if they start making more, ticket prices go up and the sport prices itself out of the reach of the average fan.

Me personally could care less how much money these guys make honestly. But from a players standpoint I would think they would want to make as much as possible and I don't think they're doing that under the direction of Gene Upshaw.
