The Patriots have their rings, and had the Colts not existed, the Colts would have beaten the Bears in the Super Bowl.
The long list would only consist of basketball players b/c I was talking about the Bulls. All the Patrick Ewings, Barkleys and Stocktons of the world are underachievers b/c they don't have any rings pretty much b/c they played during the Jordan years.

But that doesn't mean they underachieved. I'd say it means that's just about how good they were. I might even say they overachieved. Some of those teams have been amazing, but some didn't to seem to have any business wining that many games. This year's team would be one of them. How can a team people can't believe started 3-4 be an underachiever b/c they lost after MAKING the playoffs with 12 wins? In today's NFL, winning that many games with the holes they have on defense is impressive. People always say, imagine the Eagles with a real WR... imagine the Colts with a real MLB. The Pats have done what they've done with a top level defense.

Thank you...Cover 2 is such a soft defense. 3rd and long, they were killed last week with that cover 2. It's the reason why they couldn't stop the Bolts on 3rd and long.

It goes back to the thread made about Dungy a few weeks ago. He's a good coach but imo he hardly the "Defensive Specialist" a lot of people in the media they were clamoring him out to be.

Re: Are the Colts underachievers?

Yes on the question.

They won a Super Bowl in '07, but that doesn't exonerate the other 6 seasons of 12+ wins (5 in a row stretching from '03 until the present minus the '06 season) when they've only won 3 playoff games, two of them against Denver. They're 0-3 as either a #1 or #2 seed ('99, '05, '07). Since the Colts have complied a regular season record of 114-46 with 3 first round byes since the '99 season, 7-8 in the playoffs is quite disappointing.

Actually, the entire 2007 run in the playoffs makes up of over half of the Colts' playoff wins since the Peyton Manning era began.

I actually think the Colts have overachieved. They are so overdue for a losing season. They looked terrible at the beginning of the year. But they end up going 12-4? I wish we could do that in our off years.

I don't understand why Colts fans are saying it's time for a change of head coach when the change that will happen when Dungy retires is the promotion of Jim Caldwell to head coach who most possibly will end up as a Dungy clone. Not that being a Dungy clone is a bad thing but, I'd much rather just have Dungy come back then have the Colts take a chance on Caldwell next year. Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen.

I don't understand why the Colts have named Caldwell the head-coach-in-waiting anyways. Jim Caldwell might be a great guy and might turn out to be a good NFL head coach but, it seems like the Colts are taking a big risk on a guy who is a unproven NFL head coach on what could be the last few years of Manning in his prime. I would have at least liked the Colts to have waited and seen who was available and interview some other candidates at least.

I'm not talking this year specifically, but this run as a whole. So many regular season wins and really not that much success in the playoffs. They've underachieved in the playoffs compared to their regular seasons, or I guess you could say overachieved in the regular season compared to their playoffs - both mean the same really.
