As it was already mentioned here by Freelance, If you don't think the guy is putting himself ahead of the team...watch how they push back/ignore the linemen who want to congratulate them so they can "celebrate".

Re: We Need a Petition

I think they should still flag excessive celebrations (holding the game up), but they should let them use the ball as a prop AND allow team celebrations. That way, the guys that choose to work on their awesome celebrations can, and the guys that wanna practice football and just quietly win games. Everybody's happy.

I couldn't agree with you more.

It's just a sign of the me-first, look-at-me, poorly-parented times we live in. I thought it was a lot cooler, and much more of a statement, when Barry Sanders would just hand the ball to the ref like he'd back in a few minutes.
but I also remember Butch Johnson, Hollywood Henderson, and Drew Person celebrating. I used to love the California quake.

Re: We Need a Petition

The players are paid to do their jobs, nothing more, nothing less.

I don't think it would be a big issue for the me now players to hand the ball to the ref.

It's like a soccer coach that I heard several years ago talking to younger kids. If you win a championship game, act like you've won it before.

Ok, I didn't explain the whole story.

The coach's team lost the fist championship game and the other team taunted the coach's team.

The two teams went up against each other the next year and the coach told his team, if you win the championship, act like you won it before. Do the high fives and the team hugging, but don't rub it in the opposing teams faces like they did to us last year.

Show them how true champions celebrate.

That was his message to the youth, and I don't feel it was a bad message to convey.
