ugh... I wish Goodell woulda cut the blackout rule for this year.

While I understand the desire to cut the blackout rule due to economic times, I don't think it's a great idea. If you tie the blackout rule to external reasoning...it's not that big of a step for people to expect the rule to be lifted for a variety of reasons.

Amoung the possibilities... team has losing record, bad weather at stadium and so on. They seem silly now but once you break a rule, it remains breakable.

When the Lions show improvement and win, the fans will come. It's as simple as that. Sellouts at Ford Field (and the Silverdome before) were a normal occurence up until last season.

I don't have it, but if you have direct TV in say San Diego and the game gets blacked out, do you still miss the game with direct TV?

No, if you pay for the games you get ALL of the games regardless of attendance.

Basically, if by Thursday (72 hours so Friday for MNF) of a given week for a home game, if the home team has not sold out all the seats to the game then every view in a 75 mile radius will not be able to see the game on local bradcasting channel.

It is a way for teams to try to get people to the stadium. If the game isn't on TV and you really want to see it, you in theroy, (but with most sports bars having Direct TV...) would have to purchase a ticket to the game if you wanted to see your team play.

Not true, NFL blackout rules apply to Sunday ticket. So if you live in San Diego with Sunday ticket its still blacked out
