Eagles went for it on 4th and 1 and converted from inside the 30. Turned out to end up as a field goal anyway (pending?) but gave them a few more downs to score.

Dallas goes for it on 4th and inches from the 34 down 4 points and fails.

Would've been a 51 yard FG, well within Bailey's range.

Let's see what happens.

Really wouldn't be devastating to fail from the 5. You lose out on a FG, but the opponent has to go 95 yards

Just wanted to say that I love how often I see teams line up on 4th & 1 this year. Sometimes they prevail, sometimes they falter, sometimes they don't snap it but at least they aren't just succumbing to the punt. Heck, we're also seeing quite a few trick punt plays this year. Heck, we've even seen teams go for it on 4th & 6 when it's not just a last-quarter necessity.

I do think it's a big step up from the days of automatic punts on those shorter 4th down plays.

Good thread reboot! A pet peeve of mine these days is that announcers are almost always ultra conservative. They rarely like an aggressive call. It seems like they think all field goals are automatic and all punts are a lock to be downed inside the 5. I hate that feeling when my team has 4th and inches, goes for the FG and then the kicker shanks it. D'oh.
