Saga of RGIII

Why does Jay Gruden want him to be pocket passer ? despite he said he had no intention to make RG3 pocket passer after he hired as Redskins new head coach. He's a clone of Rich Kotite who ruined Randall Cunningham's career even though RG3 is different from Cunningham.

Re: Saga of RGIII

This has been discussed at length in the OT thread.

RG3 is the one who wants to be a pocket passer. Jay Gruden just wants him to be a quarterback. RG3 balked at running the plays Kyle had for him after coming back from the injury. He's the one who hands the ball off 99% of the time on read option plays now. RG3 is the one who needs to realize his skills in the pocket aren't good enough to give up running, whether he's too scared of getting hit now or not.

Re: Saga of RGIII

Yeah, Jay Gruden isn't the one that wants RGIII to be an exclusive pocket passer as he's used read option in his offense with Cincy. Personally I think it's high time that the Redskins cut ties and start over. A change of scenery may slap some reality into RGIII as well and maybe he'd be a little more amenable to you know, actually listen to his coaches.

I hope that happens without the change of scenery but I fear you're right.

Re: Saga of RGIII

Not buying the health the angle. Quarterbacks can get hurt in the pocket as well.
Randall Cunningham was much better than RG3 because he could not only run but pass.
RG3 still can't read defenses which is amazing because its a QB friendly league.
Any league where Ryan Fitzpatrick can throw 6 TDs that tells you something.
He's not a pocket passer but in the NFL you have to be able to stand back there a good amount of time and complete passes.
Cam, Kaep, Vick and RG3 are all the same guy. Very strong arms, athletic but no touch on the ball and can't read defenses

I always find it interesting that the most sacked QBs in the league are among the most athletic... Kaepernick and Newton stand at #1 and #2 right now. You can blame their offensive lines all you want, but clearly their pocket awareness is lacking and/or they're holding the ball too long. RGIII would likely be up there this year if he wasn't injured, too (20 sacks compared to just 119 passing attempts).

Re: Saga of RGIII

Rodgers used to be up there too as far as being the most sacked QBs. This year is lowest he's been sacked all year but then again his mantra(and to a lesser extent McCarthy's)has been to just take the sack as opposed to just forcing it.

Now I'm not saying that those guys are doing the same thing because I have no idea but it's something to think about.
