Re: 2016 World Cup of Hockey

It was no goal because of a forward motion by jvr to direct the puck towards the goal. If it just bounced off him, it would've counted cause the bounce off Stepans helmet was fine.

Too bad those boards are a one tourney thing, cause it's ESPN technology I believe. Though Sportsnet is using it too. Weird that ESPN can use cgi technology on boards, but can't do that for mlb, they use green screen instead. It's only working on the main cam though, ice level cams has the regular feed(meaning no cgi,so boards are just what people see in person). It's a nice new concept I hope the NHL does adopt. Big money making opportunities from it.

LOL at Torts. Nice team you built there buddy.
It's only one game so I'm sure USA will regroup.
But outside of Kane that team doesn't have any offensive difference makers. And I wouldn't be shocked if Torts didn't even want 88 on his team. You know, with all that unruly and unpredictable creativity and flair.

I'm sure Torts will work hard on finding a system that will allow them to score more goals by blocking more shots.

When Pavelski is your #1 centre you have a problem. I love JP, but he's been a scoring winger for years now. He's not a catalyst.

This team could really use Eichel, Geaudreau and maybe even Larkin.

Speaking of which, unless the goalies play great (was hoping Schneider got the call but Quick is a great choice too of course), not sure how far USA goes. Think they built the wrong team for this tourney. I guess I shouldn't say wrong team, but not sure if they stack up to some of the other rosters especially defensively. Then again, it's not quite fair to compare to Canada who basically has an All Star team.
Team USA is making the same mistake that Team Canada did in 1998.
USA beat them in the '96 so they built a squad specific to beat Team USA.
Putting cement handed players like Rob Zamuner on the roster really didn't help against skillful teams.

They should have invited Ryan, Kessel and Shattenkirk to this team.

I'm also sure Buff will be in the lineup next game.

I'm expecting Team USA to bounce back, but I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't make the playoff round.

With the loss though, will USA even make the semis? If every other game plays out the way it should, then Canada finishes with 3 wins,Europe with 2, USA with 1, Czech with 0.

Re: 2016 World Cup of Hockey

Anyone know why they're not playing on an International sized rink???

By the way, Buccigross calling the game is good stuff.

I didn't pay much attention to the actual games, only headlines and news, leading up to today, but I'm loving this. I am so pumped for hockey. I do hate the injury implications to the NHL season though...

This is an NHL showcase (hence Team Europe and Team Young Guns).
It's basically an Eff You to the IOC so they'll be doing everything via NHL rules.

Canada Cups/World Cups have used NHL rules since 1976, have they not?
