Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

If Hawks want to get rid of a bad contract, they'll obviously need to attach some value along with someone like Hossa.

Even though they got swept by the Preds, their window obviously isn't closing anytime soon. You still got Towes/Kane for 6 more years. If somehow they could get rid of Hossa, I'd do it, even if they have to attach a higher pick to do so. Losing a 1st is obviously costly, but if Hawks could get rid of Hossa without taking back salary, and then also do that TVR/Kruger to Vegas move(which apparently is done already), that'd open up some space for them to add a 2nd line guy of value.

When you got the guys they got locked up to contracts for 6+ more seasons, a 1st round pick right now won't have so much value to them. Might as well do move which helps you the most right now than think about 5-10 years down the road. Cap might go up to 77M for this upcoming season which would help Hawks out alot. They might just fit under the cap with the Kruger deal if all works out. But Hossa also being dealt gives them the space to actually add a helpful guy.

Hossa could be moved but there is way more risk in trading him than anyone else.

Most teams that are going to want his contract aren't great teams and if he goes somewhere and retires the Blackhawks are stuck with a recapture penalty for whatever remains on his deal. Arizona or other teams that like the Datsyuk type deals would love Hossa, only being paid 1 million each of the next 4 seasons but he counts 5.275 towards the cap so floor teams would kill for that cap hit but I doubt Hossa has much interest playing the next 4 seasons for a floor team when he's not being paid much to do so.

If he stays odds are when he decides to call it quits the Blackhawks use his back problems as reason to stick him on LTIR and at that point no recapture penalty, same thing the Flyers did with Pronger.

Wouldn't completely shock me to see him dealt but its risky, if he retires before his contract is up the Blackhawks are hit with a 4.275 cap hit yearly through 20-21, still frees up 1 million each year if they get the penalty but for a team close to the cap adding a cap hit north of 4 mil for a player you traded is dicey.

Playoffs are over, let the off-season fun begin. Vegas, you're on the clock.

Today's a deadline for teams to protect their players, right?

The expansion draft is kind of a bonus offseason event this year. Yay

Fleury has told GMJR he will waive his nmc. Or so they say. But after listening to his interviews last night, that seems to be true.

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

The surprising part would be if vegas didn't take him. Fleury to Vegas seems like the most sure bet of all picks.

Not that it's surprising he's going to be moved, but the "passing of the torch" moment obviously happened last night when he literally passed the cup on to Murray.
