MLB 2K11 News Post

Check out all the screenshots in Hi-Res, right here.

MLB 2K11 Developer Diary #2 is available now. Art Director, Heather Marshall talks about reaching a higher level of graphic quality across the board, focusing on player likenesses, lighting, uniforms, and overall realism.

Quote:
"Player body types have also received a complete overhaul. We have taken our Minor League players and given them a chest and shoulders worthy of the Majors. From the beginning, we realized that every MLB player must have a more athletic, professional physique. We built the average athletic body, going back to basic anatomy, to make sure it had the right balance of muscle, weight and bone to fill out that uniform. We focused a lot on the chest and shoulders which needed the most attention. From there, we adjusted the weight and muscle to make up the nine different body types in our roster. Along with all these body types, we made sure that the players kept the right shape as the camera moved further away from them and they become smaller on the screen. This way, when the camera pans out to see your player run the bases, he’ll maintain his shape rather then popping back to an average size body, as was the case in 2K10."

Just talks about different lighting, and the player models. It does look better...it looks like they tweaked the gloves a little, but still atrocious.

Def. not info I was hoping for.

Wow, that's pretty underwhelming. Definitely not the info I was expecting.

# 4 Jamin23 @ 02/11/11 02:08 PM
I can't say it doesn't look better, but the think that still irks me is the way they design the scoreboard with the players career stats and not the game or season stats.

There are definitely improvements in those screens, but I'd really like to hear more about Franchise and My Player. Hopefully the ESPN preview has some good info.

As I said in the "Perfect Game Trailer" if you download it via the Marketplace you can see the Graphical difference. Especially in the Player Models.

I will say the Lighting looks really good in those screens.

another no win for 2K

Gameplay sounds like it will be better so people are bitching about graphics. 2K responds with a very nice article that shows how much work they've done to make the game look better and.......people bitch

It's not like they aren't going to release game videos or info on the franchise, just be patient. What's the difference if they release it now or next week, it's still before the game's actual release. Releasing gameplay vids a month before the game comes out doesn't sell games, making a great game sells games.

You make a good point.

Dayummm the faces look 100x better now! And realistic!

last insight was text heavy, this one was pic heavy.

yes we were all expecting a bit more but its all good.
in due time we will see the floodgates open.

as far as the improvements to the graphics, yes there was an upgrade, but its still a bit behind what is possible in 2011.
Tho, last year I enjoyed the game and the graphics really never got on my nerves.
the scoreboards tho.....lol

Ahh finally something... i am pleasantly surprised im glad they worked on those things.. the lighting on the crowd and stadium was so dull so happy to see that worked on, and nice they added more life to the characters. Very happy with what i saw... nice step.

The details on the jerseys are more apparent and the facial details are looking about a billion times better, so no complaints there. I really don't see that much of a difference in the overall models (body shape, etc), but some of the improvements they are touting (the fixed depth pop-in, etc) need the game to be in motion to really appreciate.

I just wish they'd stop with the pics and comparisons. Show us the game in motion. If comparisons are to be made, give us video comparisons. Animations make or break the look of a game more than facial details IMO.

I'm hoping that the lighting makes playing day games and late afternoon games more visually pleasing. If they aren't, I'll still settle for the gameplay improvements for THIS year's game. I did think parks like Citizens Bank/AT&T/Yankee Stadium/Tropicana or whatever it's called... were too cartoony in day/afternoon/night games and hopefully the shadows make them look more lifelike.

The next insight has to be on something important because the million-dollar contest and graphical improvements have already been covered... here's hoping the next one details gameplay(probably the new fielding controls and system in action).

I may be in the minority here, but I've never really understood why people complain about graphics in up-close images. We get those, what, 10% of the time during a game?

Yeah, it's not frame-worthy art, but I like it thus far.

Bottom line, for me anyway, is how does the game play and how is the franchise mode? Frankly, you could take 2K10 and add a franchise mode that functions and closely reflects what goes on in real-life MLB, and I'd be very happy.

Just my 2 cents...

That is not Mark Buhrle, that's Chan Ho Park! (2k10)

I like the new crowds models, very Show-like, however I wonder if they still turn bidimensional once in fielding view......

I agree with this. The player faces look better but most of the rest of the stuff looks very similar.

Thank you. That was so ugly when players just instantly got smaller as the camera panned out, and had hats on that were 20 sizes to big for their five inch wide face.

And those faces are certainly improved, very nice.

Wats Up With 2k.. Every body wares the Same Gloves... Thats Not Realistic...what about adding in a way for managers to argue certain calls?
What about during season/career/franchise name yourself coach, coach/player, hire and fire hitting coaches, etc...?
what about a way to "charge the mound" after being beaned?

You would think coming off a WS victory the fans in SF would be more supportive of their world champions.
Yeah, they seem to have gone backwards with this. World Series Baseball 2K3 had this kind of crowd with a bunch of green shirts and not that many whites or team colors. It wasn't until MLB 2K6 when this was turned around again I believe. I don't know about you, but it really makes it hard to believe that road Halladay shot is of Great American Ballpark when I can't see any red in the seats.
