Madden 12 News Post

Over the next few weeks, EA Sports will show 25 new plays that you will find in Madden NFL 12.

To be clear, there are more than 25 new plays in the game. Each day, a new play will be accompanied by a screen of the play art and a brief description of why the play has been added to Madden NFL 12.

Play #5 features the Zona Short Post.

Quote:
"Cards - Gun Empty Trips - Zona Short Post - When it’s a passing situation and the Cardinals need to pick up a crucial first down, the ball is more than likely going to WR Larry Fitzgerald. On this play the Cardinals line up in an Empty set with Fitzgerald lining up to the far right. He’ll run an inside dig type route while the slot receiver runs a short hitch in front drawing up the linebackers to create the opening. This play was used in a week 2 contest at Atlanta."

The silence in this thread is deafening. I see I'm not the only one that's been underwhelmed thus far.

It's time to start showcasing some defense.

Looks like a play that's gonna get me killed on All-Madden if I tried it on M11. All those short routes cry to be picked off by a superhuman CPU coverage player jumping onto the ball and if there's any kind of pressure I'll get sacked before the B receiver can make his cut.

The problem with the "Stick" routes in the game is that the route animation for the WR or TE takes way too long. They should be whipping their head around anticipating a throw. Also, most stick throws are based on a 3 step drop and right now the timing is way off in the game. The QB hits his third step and the WR/TE is still going throw his long, slow animation turning around to find the ball. Stick routes need to be faster.

Also, these stick routes seem to be more susceptible to better bump coverage from CBs in the game. These routes often lead to the really long bump animation that looks like the WR is run blocking rather than trying to get open for a pass.

Examples of the poor timing, 1:35 mark:

Looks like a play where I'd hot route X/LB/A based on who wasn't being directly covered.

This, I'd definitely have one of the three guys on the left run a slant or drag, depending on how many yards I need to pick up.

For those of you who have been asking, we will be showing new defensive plays in Madden NFL 12 down the road. We are starting out with the offensive plays and will switch to the defensive side of the ball in a few weeks. Thanks –JD
