NBA 2K13 News Post

Polygon's Samit Sarkar has posted his NBA 2K13 preview, introducing the Control Stick, real-time physics collision system and talking about the improved passing game.

Quote:
Everyone will appreciate the new real-time physics system for collisions, which makes shots in the paint much more dynamic. A player going up for a lay-in can now get realistically bumped by defenders, altering his path through the air — as well as that of his shot. These aren't canned animations for contact; everything depends on the momentum of the players involved.

Another improvement NBA 2K fans will notice is passing, which Visual Concepts acknowledges has been a problem area in the past. "Passing is one of the toughest, toughest aspects of the game," said Jones, and to address it, the team dedicated a gameplay engineer to passing alone. Passes tended to feel floaty, and Jones explained the reason: the game prioritized the appearance of a pass and catch, so it had to keep passes slow in order to ensure that a receiver's hands lined up with the ball's position.

I could have been smoother and I feel where you are coming from but I guess its different strokes for different folks. It was just something different and added another aspect to gaming.

Gotta tip my hat to 2K/VC, again. I love what I'm hearing so far.

That right stick dribble control was pretty much the last line of defense for the Live franchise. At this point I'm really, really thinking they may just concede for another season and "go back to the drawing board"........again. Great work 2k, you probably just earned my $60 with that preview alone. Manual bounce passes are back too? Yes please!

I'm not mad, I'm just sayin'.

Awesome... Can't wait till I try the control stick dribble.

When can we expect the demo? (For non-gold xbox live membership)

I think it's usually 15 days before release for gold, and silver have to wait a few more days.

I don't know how I missed this

Derrick Rose is a "Floor General," a Skill that increases his team's offensive awareness.

So...we are doing another year of giving special abilities to Derrick Rose that he doesn't deserve?

Are you saying Rose doesn't have a great runner or stepback jumper or pullup?? He definitely has the best runner in the nba IMO.

Runner is one of the best...

The rest....

Derrick rose squares up on like 95% of the jumpers he takes. The remaining 5% are usually under duress, and like the majority of players, don't fall often.

I hope that they either stretch out abilities or added an extra good.
If a players had good post abilities he would go off.

If not, I will just edit them myself. Just like I will with potential if potential/progression isnt fixed. Too many players that became stars that never produced.

I want to be able to execute a bounce pass at will.

Just like they do for all superstars? Oh...that's right.

Also, of those 5, the only one that really is that egregious is the fadeaway. If the spin jumper includes, spinning shots in the lane then Rose is one of the best at that.

Again, how much bearing does this have on the players ability? I'd imagine the ratings also play a huge part in determining the success of these shots.
I think you are taking these a little too seriously.

Personally, I'd be more concerned with LeBron being able to run around in circles, then plow through the lane and dunk over 3 people, which could be done on a consistent basis in 2k12.

Great preview. I'm liking what I'm hearing. Those signature skills definitely sound interesting.

Play someone who takes nothing but stepbacks & fadeaways with d rose and you'll find out

While you're at it, play someone who has JR Smith and his 70 mid range and have them do dribble pull up & fadeaways. Should show you how little ratings matter compared to these abilities when you are doing that shot type....
