WWE 2K14 News Post

It appears that the WWE and 2K are five year business partners minimum, with Yukes being retained to develop the game which will release this fall. In a release sent to ESPN today, it appears 2K's work on NBA 2K is what impressed WWE officials the most. When 2K officials were approached, they saw a similar type of fit for WWE in their gaming lineup.

“We’ve looked at the WWE franchise with respect for a long time,” said Jason Argent, 2K Sports’ vice president of marketing. “There are a lot of similarities that we see, from the size of the franchise to the demographics of the franchise, and they fit in very well with what we’ve done with NBA in terms of development and marketing. We thought we could add tremendous value right off the bat and down the road. We’re super excited to get an agreement in place.”

2K will be using Yukes this year in conjunction with the team at Visual Concepts. In the future, a hybrid model of Visual Concepts and Yukes developing the game looks to occur for now, with changes to that plan obviously possible in the future.

Added Argent: “Everything that we’ve done with NBA is what we’re trying to contribute to WWE. So the growth that you’ve see in the NBA franchise from the authenticity in the game to the excitement of the marketing that surrounds it is all something we expect to add to the franchise. We’re going to create one hell of a video game franchise.”

Are you excited about the prospects?

UPDATE: Here is the press release. Is the offical name WWE '14 or WWE 2K14?

2K and WWE® Announce Exclusive Multi-Year Agreement
for WWE Video Game Series

2K and WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced that they have entered into an exclusive multi-year agreement granting 2K the exclusive worldwide rights to publish the critically acclaimed WWE video game franchise across all major platforms and distribution channels. The series, which will continue to be developed by Yukes in Japan, will combine the studio’s signature gameplay with 2K’s commitment to authenticity in WWE ’14, the latest iteration of the popular, long running series. With the addition of the WWE franchise, 2K will continue a highly-successful, 15-year tradition established by past WWE titles. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“The WWE series is a great addition to our stable of triple-A titles, and we’re very happy with this exclusive agreement with our new partners,” said David Ismailer, Chief Operating Officer for 2K. “We look forward to capturing the excitement of WWE and marrying it with the same commitment to authenticity and entertainment that we give to our NBA 2K and MLB 2K franchises.”

2K has a strong history in growing premier sports simulation titles, evidenced by the incredible commercial success of the NBA 2K series, with more than 15 million units of NBA 2K11, NBA 2K12 and NBA 2K13 sold-in to date worldwide. This year, in the first week of its release, NBA 2K13 sold 49 percent more copies in the same time frame than the franchise’s previous record-holder, NBA 2K11.

“2K’s reputation for outstanding quality and dedication to authenticity are a perfect fit for WWE,” added Casey Collins, Executive Vice President, Consumer Products for WWE. “This new partnership will ensure that WWE continues to be one of the leading video game brands in the world and we look forward to continuing the franchise with the benefit of their expertise across a variety of platforms.”

“The development work on the WWE franchise is impressive, and we’re excited to combine our background in developing the NBA 2K series with theirs in this new partnership,” concluded Greg Thomas, Executive Vice President of 2K Sports. “Fans can expect the most authentic WWE experience on game consoles this fall.”

Developed by Yukes, WWE ’14 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available for consoles in the fall of 2013.

WOW! Guys just think if 2K can ever get the NFL license again omg! What a lineup that would be NFL 2K NBA 2K (hopefully MLB2K,NHL2K CH2K all come back) and now WWE 2K look out ea if that happend especially if they get back NFL. Visual Concepts and 2k should bring sin sophia on board for the deal to help with the creation suite since they are formerly aki makers of wwf no mercy.

I'm with nowayout. Guessing this year will have a few small changes but basically look exactly the same. And then the game that comes out in Q4 2014 should actually be something to get excited about with a real PS4/720 release hopefully built from the ground up.

If all they did for the first game was fix the a.i. of 13 and fix animation and legacy issues, the servers, and roster updates it would be a real decent game.

This is really starting to sound promising. I do like WWE13, despite its problems. If they can use it as a base, improving a few things, I'll enjoy it. I don't need a complete rebuild to be happy. Fix a few of the character models, make the AI more realistic (i.e. don't make their go-to move a spear through the barricade for a count out), and make sure all combinations of created characters, arenas, moves, etc are fully compatible.

My biggest gripe is as a PS3 user, I can't edit Universe matches to use created superstars in a created arena without my system freezing. What's the point in the creation suite if it does?

Never thought I'd agree with a Cubs fan, but I do...

AKI/SinSophia would be useless at this point in time. 14 years ago they may have been great. What would they add now? Let it go, they're not the savior of WWE gaming.

Yes, but that's on a game they've been doing for years. Who's to say 2k12 wasn't what they were building up to? They just got WWE, so I'm not expecting ground shaking changes.

Yup. That's what I like about nba 2k series . Each game feels like a buildup of improvement . (Getting very casual now tho)

But then again this is coming to ps4/720 right ? Hopefully 2k can start the buildup here as well

WWE2K14 is not coming to PS4/X720, as currently those do not exist. Eventually they will release a game for those consoles, assuming they come out within the next 5 years (highly likely that they will) but as I've learned from my time spent on automotive news/rumor forums... no matter how many spy shots you see, how many specs get leaked.... "it ain't official 'til it's official"

If WWE 2k14 has improved AI I will purchase it without question.

It'd also be nice if the game wouldn't freeze every 30 minutes or so.

Keep the creation suite, though. One of the best features in gaming.

This is exciting news, but also remain apprehensive about getting excited for the upcoming game, because I feel this partnership will probably have minimal effect the first year of release.

WWE 14, was all over the place. It did some things well, some things really badly, and other things that made you say WTF?

Also still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the move animations have gotten progressively worse since HCTP and SvR 2006. Everything looks stiff and clunky and none of the moves or strikes seem to have any contact or real force behind them. Hopefully once 2k starts to become more integrated, they can restore some order in that department.

The inability to go backstage without selecting a back stage match is also inexcusable. Some player models and face models look really shoddy and the game overall was very buggy. Menu problems, sound problems, commentary problems etc.

Let's not forget that just being a 2k game doesn't make it amazing. IMO they have had one good series the NBA series. They used to have a good baseball game but lately it hasn't been anything to brag about, and their hockey game got left behind by the EA hockey game. I am in the minority in thinking their football games weren't as amazing as people on here claim they are (not saying EA is any better). I am hoping for the best as I tend to enjoy WWE games, but it's a mixed bag experience in the past with 2k. If it takes the route of NBA then great, if it ends up like NHL or MLB then it will be years of mediocrity followed by the inevitable cancelling of the series.

So they may announce a new console today. That doesn't make me wrong, "bro."

As I said... "it ain't official 'til it's official" - 2k has not said anything about their first WWE game being on a new console.

If the new consoles come out later this year and this game IS released for them, we can't expect a totally new experience this short out. It would be at least the 2k15.
