Amen.
This is such an underrated game because it is a text based game IMO.
Once an Ipad version is available...I'm back into it.
The perfect "on the go" game!

I've always been interested in trying this game out. Looks like the iPad version of last year's game is only $1.99 right now, so I might give that a shot, and see how I like it before taking the full price plunge on the desktop version.

Try out the past versions for Mac or PC. They are usually free and give you a basic understanding of how the game plays. I've been playing this since OOTP 10 and its by far the best GAME I have played. The first two years, I just played Offline games, but once I tried an online game, I was hooked. Online leagues are incredible. If you're a baseball fan and like the transaction side of it, try it out.

I didn't realize that they gave away the older versions on their site. If I like the iPad version (which I already bought, because $2), I might move up to 13 on desktop before spending the money on the newest version.

I have tons of fun playing it. I usually start off unemployed and then work myself up to a MLB GM. I usually set it up so my manager (comp) controls the lineups and minors. Then I spend the rest of the time trading or signing players, adjusting the roster, and managing injuries. After I build up a team I usually wait until my favorite team offers me a GM spot, or join one of the worst teams to build them up.

Played MLB 14 The Show today, turned it off after a few games and went back to OOTP 14. The amount of realism and detail in this game is unparalleled. Passing on purchasing MLB 14 this year in favor of OOTP 15. April 18th can't come soon enough!

They are totally different games.

OOTP is great. I always run into the same problem though - I mess with all the options and never really get a franchise going.

I've thought about being manager and working my way up, but it gets a bit frustrating at times managing A ball etc...

To me...the worst part of managing the minor league teams is the unrealistic amount of shuffling the CPU GM does...requiring you to redo your lineup and pitching staff every day.
I didn't play it that way in '13...so it may have been addressed(I don't think so though looking at other teams)....but that totally turned me off to "working up the ranks".

@DookieMowf - Try an online league. Nothing is more enjoyable than competing against others to see how your managerial skills are!

I understand they're different games, and because of that, I prefer OOTP to MLB The Show to fill my baseball needs.

Pumped for this to drop. I've purchased the past three years, definitely a must try for any baseball fan whether you consider yourself a big gamer or not. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but OOTP forum boards are fairly helpful and once the concept is grasped prepare to have hours of time go in a blink.

Thanks for covering OOTP, they really deserve all the PR they get.

OOTP 15 is coming out soon. Here is an interview with Markus Heinsohn about the new 3D features
