MLB The Show 17 News Post

It's a light Friday update by Diamond Dynasty standards. A new pack, a couple new cards and a small roster update are the major highlights.

The June 2nd Bases Loaded pack costs 5,000 Stubs per pack (limit 3 per person) and will have a guaranteed Impact Veteran or Breakout Series player in it. The new players in these packs (in addition to all the old classics) are Impact Veteran Aaron Hill (89 overall), Impact Veteran Angel Pagan (85), Impact Veteran Dioner Navarro (84), Impact Veteran Denard Span (84), Impact Veteran Justin Morneau (81), Impact Veteran Johnny Bench (78), and Impact Veteran Dale Murphy (73). I would say these packs are not worth your Stubs, so if you're really dying to get a couple more Breakout or Impact Veterans just head to the Marketplace and buy a couple.

Battle Royale got a mid-week update that added Breakout Eric Gagne (97) and Hardware Joey Votto (96) as two new potential rewards for going 12-0. Another group of players were added today as potential rewards for various tiers of wins. These players include Impact Veteran Chipper Jones (95), Postseason Flashback Cole Hamels (95), Impact Veteran Cliff Floyd (88), Impact Veteran Drew Storen (87), Impact Veteran Shin-Soo Choo (85), Impact Veteran Joaquin Benoit (85), All-Star Odubel Herrera (84), Impact Veteran Drew Pomeranz (84), Impact Veteran Roberto Alomar (83), All-Star Addison Russell (82), and Impact Veteran Ted Williams (80).

In terms of the roster update, it lacks any major impact, but as always, we still have some players moving between tiers.

Moving Up

Gold: David Robertson (86)
Silver: Robbie Ray (82), Luis Severino (82), Jake McGee (82), Cameron Maybin (80), Alex Avila (80)
Bronze: Adam Frazier (74), Paul Sewald (73), Koda Glover (72), Chase Whitley (71)

Charlie Blackmon also improved his Gold status this week.

Moving Down

Bronze: Danny Salazar (79)

Very underwhelming update. I thought the POTM would be this week but apparently that's next week, no idea why. Real lack of interesting upgrades, other than Robertson going gold and Blackmon getting even more ridiculously good. Next week should be huge though with the POTM and surely it's been long enough since they made a serious diamond move, either upgrade or downgrade.

Not a fan of the way they continue to pour exclusive content into BR. No idea why that dump of a mode constantly gets special treatment

I was expecting Correa to go diamond, possibly even Judge, oh well, no excuse for Judge or Conforto to not be gold at this point though.

See also: Lots of people play it a lot.

That's a bit chicken and egg though. Do lots of people play it so they give it much better rewards than everything else, or do lots of people play it because it has much better rewards?

I dunno, lots of people genuinely enjoy drafting teams either way. No other mode has that element.

A lot of people also like using the team they've spent hours or even large amounts of money putting together. A lot of baseball fans also like actual games of baseball instead of 3 inning cheesefests. There's plenty of ways to look at it.

I'd be very surprised if BR was the most popular mode if it didn't offer such overwhelmingly better rewards than other modes.

The only reason I don't play BR is cause I'm cheap with my stubs. If I was a decent player I might get more into it but I'm so so and know I'll waste them.

I'd play BR more if it was 6 or 9 inning games. It's just too cheesy at 3 and it usually takes me longer than 3 innings to pick up a players pitching tendencies. Sucks cause I really enjoy the drafting part.

Cool man, I wasn't saying that wasn't the case either. I was simply saying there are reasons people do like it beyond the base rewards. I don't like 3-inning games so I don't play it because the rewards wouldn't change that.

I'm confused as to why Keuchel hasn't gone Diamond yet, and Ervin Santana Gold. I'm not sure why they slow play some of these updates. Makes no sense.

I love drafting teams and stuff but the 3 inning cheesefests just bore the life out of me. Would love if there some 6 or 9 inning version or an offline mode with lesser rewards. I also cant stand how everyone just has their starter face the leadoff guy and then it turns into a bullpen game where Chapman pitches 3 innings or some ****. They should make starters have to go 1 inning or give up a handful of runs before they can come out. In other words, I want baseball.

Yes, offline BR draft mode like EA games do would be great.
They don't even have to give rewards, just let it count for career missions...I'd play that a lot.
