Not to sign with 2k, but so that EA can't say "well there's no one else out here ready to make a game, you might as well re-up with us". For a lower price, at that.

And not to say that 2k is going out of it's way to do the NFL any favours, rather to not get shut out of making NFL games for another 5 years.
Rumours regarding NFL dissatisfaction with Madden are that just that.
I think 2K’s decision to bring back a football game is based upon the
return on investments, whatever magic number is on their sales board
I don’t know. I suspect 2K’s brass figures 300,000 to 400,000 units
for a successful run at the very least. I can’t imagine 2K would bring
back a title in the hopes of reclaiming NFL branding 2 years from now.
That’s a lot of money to spend on a rumour.

Again, don't misinterpret what I'm saying. I never said that reclaiming the NFL brand was their sole purpose for making this game. IMO, it's a perfect storm of displeasure among the reviewers, consumers, the NFL etc.

No doubt that if the gaming community was very satisfied with Madden, APF would never see the light of day. But because of the things I've mentioned above and a host of other reasons, 2k sees and opportunity to make money AND re-position itself in the football videogame market, should there be a need to have a game ready instead of building it from scratch in a short period of time.

Re: All Pro Football to outsell Madden?

Guys, just compare the sale figures of the highly praised NBA 2k7 and poorly rated NBA Live 2007:

700.000 to 1.2 million! (Link: http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?op...1&limitstart=5)

Can you believe that? Even Tiger Woods 07 sold better that NBA 2k7.

The general public doesn't seem to like 2K games.

...and remember 2K discontinued Top Spin because of poor sales (270.000). So what will happen if APF2K8 has similar sale figures?

It's possible that the 2k team has some inside info that is dictating to them to get a game ready, so that in a couple of years, EA can't strong-arm the NFL into a deal they may have no intention of extending.
That is pure speculation - there is absolutely nothing tosuggest that the NFL is
unhappy with the Madden deal - perfect storm of everything else, yes.

Nonsense. That is a sales for all platforms, consoles, PC, handhelds. NBA Live
is featured on PSP, Personal Computers while 2K is not. Look at the sales
numbers for the 360 & it's a more accurate picture.

I can't believe this thread is 9 pages long. And I have read every single post.

Sure there is. A quick one would be to look back an issue or two in EGM's rumour section and it's a little blurb. The same kind of blurb that mentioned that 2k is signing legends to contracts to possibly release a game in the future. I'm not saying it's written in stone. Of course it's pure speculation based off the EGM rumour and a google search I did a while back on the topic.

But when EGM had the rumour about this game coming out a little over a year ago, people dismissed it as "just an EGM rumour". It's enough to make it worthwhile to ponder why this game is getting released besides the line 2k gave us.
