Costly Defeat: Blue Jays lose McGowan and Game At Hands Of Red Sox

Jon Lester stymied the Blue Jays offence with a complete game shutout, giving up only four hits and getting the win behind with the help of Xander Bogaerts and the rest of the Boston lineup.

The Blue Jays received further bad news after the game, when an X-Ray revealed that starter Dustin McGowan suffered a fractured hand and is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks. McGowan suffered the injury when a come backer came back and deflected off his throwing hand in the top of the fourth inning. McGowan left the game and was replaced by J.A. Happ, who went 4.2 innings while allowing eight hits. A corresponding roster move is expected.

Blue Jays Call Up Stroman, Place McGowan On DL

Stroman was listed amongst Daniel Norris and Aaron Sanchez as the organization's top prospect.

After being told that Dustin McGowan would miss the next 6-8 weeks with a fracture in his throwing hand, the Blue Jays announced that they have called up Marcus Stroman from Triple-A Buffalo.

Stroman has put up a 2.93 ERA to go along with a 2-3 record with 45 strikeouts in just 40 innings pitched at Buffalo. Clearly overmatching Triple-A hitter and constantly leaving them dazed, the New York native got the call.

Stroman was listed as the team's second best prospect heading into spring training and has done well at the Triple-A level. Manager John Gibbons has already handed him a starting job, saying that he will take the place of the injured Dustin McGowan in the rotation.

In a corresponding roster move, the club has announced that top prospect Aaron Sanchez has been promoted to Triple-A Buffalo after going 3-0 with a 1.99 ERA at Double-A New Hampshire. He is expected to start in place of the promoted Marcus Stroman. Fellow starter Daniel Norris, ranked as the organization's third best prospect was also promoted, making the move from High-A Dunedin to Double-A New Hampshire, where he will take the rotation spot that Sanchez vacated.

Dickey Takes Hard-Luck Loss In Series Opener vs Royals

Kansas City Royals ace James Shields pitched a brilliant 6 1/3 innings of work and the Royal bullpen had a stellar outing to shut down a struggling Blue Jays offence. Blue Jays ace R.A. Dickey took the loss despite going the full distance and surrendering only two runs to a power lacking Royals lineup. Dickey's loss was the first off the season for him, dropping his stellar record to 5-1

Blue Jays Acquire Siegrist From Cardinals

Early in the day, Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopolous called a press conference to announce that the club has acquired left handed relief pitcher Kevin Siegrist from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for a minor league prospect.

Siegrist is expected to provide some left handed bullpen relief in a bullpen that currently only features one lefty. Siegrist has yet to appear in an MLB game this season, but played a big role in St. Louis' deep playoff run the year before. Siegrist has recorded a 2.35 ERA and .148 opponents batting average with Triple-A Memphis.

The prospect headed to the Cardinals is 24 year old catcher A.J. Jimenez. Jimenez is the top catching prospect in the Blue Jays and hit for a .303 average in 66 AB with Triple-A Buffalo. To clear room for Siegrist on the 25-man roster, the Blue Jays have optioned LHP Aaron Loup to Triple-A Buffalo.

Perez Sends Royals to Sweep of Blue Jays
Blue Jays swept behind Salvador Perez's three run shot

The Kansas City Royals completed their three game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays on the first day of May behind a Salvador Perez three run homer in the sixth.

For the first time this season, the Blue Jays got swept. "It's definitely not a good feeling", said veteran starter Mark Buehrle, who absorbed his second loss of the season.

Salvador Perez, the prized catcher for the Royals, launched a three run moonshot off of Buehrle in the sixth inning, and that was all the Royals needed, as they were able to limit the struggling Blue Jays offence once again.

The Blue Jays managed to score just four runs over the span of the three game series. Center fielder Colby Rasmus struck out twice in the game, dropping his average to a lowly .198.

The Blue Jays continue their road trip tomorrow in Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates in a three game weekend series.
