Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Place Shaw On IL, Recall Davis

The Toronto Blue Jays announced some unfortunate news on Friday morning, announcing that the injury suffered by first baseman Travis Shaw was more serious that originally thought. Shaw was diagnosed with a separated shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for the next 1 to 2 months.

Shaw suffered the injury after he swung through a high fastball in the Blue Jays' 6-5 win over the Orioles on Wednesday afternoon and has been placed on the 10-day injured list. The offseason signee had been in a slump at the plate of late, but has been productive for the Blue Jays this season, providing 8 home runs and 15 RBIs as part of a .235 batting average. He has supplied the Blue Jays with some much-needed pop in the middle of the line-up.

With the lack of depth in the organization at the first base position, the Blue Jays have opted to recall outfielder Jonathan Davis from Triple-A Buffalo. Davis had been putting together a consistent season for the Buffalo Bisons with a .244 batting average to go along with one home run, five RBIs, and four stolen bases.

With Rowdy Tellez now being the only legitimate first baseman on there Blue Jays' 26-man roster, expect Brandon Drury to eat up most of Shaw's innings at first base with Alford replacing Drury's role in the outfield.

Game Notes
The Blue Jays enter their series against the Oakland Athletics riding a six game win streak and will continue to try to find ways to pad their lead in the American League East. The Athletics themselves are riding a hot streak as well, coming off a sweep of American League West rival Seattle Mariners and will look to keep the ball rolling against the Blue Jays.

Teoscar Hernandez continues to swing a red-hot bat in the month of May, smacking his eighth homer of the season in the Jays' 6-4 win over the Orioles on Wednesday. With Travis Shaw out of the lineup, expect to see Brandon Drury receive some more playing time at the first base position.

Shortstop Marcus Semien has been a pleasant surprise for the Athletics so far this season, accumulating an impressive .299 batting average heading into play on Friday with an uncharacteristic 9 home runs and 21 RBIs.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Shoemaker, Blue Jays Squeeze Past Athletics

The Toronto Blue Jays picked up their seventh straight win in the first game of their West Coast road trip with a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Matt Shoemaker cruised through eight innings of the work, allowing only two runs on an Austin Allen two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. Shoemaker would pick up six strikeouts and scatter six hits over his eight innings of work as the Blue Jays continued to receive stellar production from their rotation.

The Blue Jays kicked off the scoring against Oakland Athletics starter A.J. Puk with a Brandon Drury RBI single in the second inning. Put would settle in after that, going six innings while striking out four strikeouts.

The Blue Jays would get the deciding blow in the top half of the eighth inning when Randal Grichuk took Athletics reliever J.B. Wendelken into the second deck in left field with a 421-foot two-run blast.

The Blue Jays look to continue their success on Saturday night against the Athletics as they aim for their eighth consecutive win.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Rough Up Manaea In Eighth Straight Win

The Toronto Blue Jays are in full win mode. The American League East-leading Blue Jays picked up their eighth straight win with a 8-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday evening.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. led the way for a the red-hot Blue Jays lineup, going 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles. Gurriel Jr. would cross the plate three times and drive in one more as he accounted for four runs in the Blue Jays' win.

The Jays got to Athletics lefty Sean Manaea early and often, tagging the Athletics ace for six runs on seven hits over four long innings of work. Manaea struggled to keep the ball in the yard, surrendering four homers in his four innings of work, most notably a three-run blast off the bat of young Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr..

Blue Jays starter Trent Thornton worked six innings and allowed three runs - two earned - on five hits. The 26-year old sophomore has shown great stuff early on this season, and recorded ten strikeouts in Saturday night's victory.

The Athletics scored all three of their runs courtesy of Matt Olson, who picked up his ninth homer of the season with a two-run home run off of Thornton in the sixth inning.

In some positive news, the Blue Jays announced that they have activated ace Hyun-Jin Ryu off the 15-day injured list. Ryu had been sidelined with a sprained elbow ligament. To make room on the 26-man roster, the Blue Jays optioned Ryan Borucki to Triple-A Buffalo. The Blue Jays shoot for their third consecutive series sweep tomorrow evening as they wrap up their three game series against the Athletics.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Jays Continue Swinging Hot Bats, Sweep Athletics

The Toronto Blue Jays' red-hot lineup continued full speed ahead as the club racked up their ninth straight win with a 6-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics. The win marked the Blue Jays' third straight series sweep after the club took the first two games of the three game set.

Bo Bichette, Randal Grichuk and Billy McKinney all went deep for the Blue Jays, who have surprised the entire league with their play early on in the month of May. Chase Anderson was credited with the win, going 5 2/3 innings and surrendering two runs while recording eight strikeouts. Anderson worked through a long first two innings, using 50 pitches across the first two frames as he settled into the ballgame.

The Athletics dropped their third straight game despite receiving home runs from Stephen Piscotty and Khris Davis. The Athletics mounted a comeback in the ninth inning, getting the tying run to the plate. However, Blue Jays closer Ken Giles would bend but wouldn't break, as he struck out two Athletics' batters to shut the door on any thought of a comeback.

The Blue Jays head to Texas to take on the Texas Rangers for a three game series as they get their first look at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Southpaw ace Hyun-Jin Ryu is expected to make his return from the injured list in the series opener against Corey Kluber.

The red-hot Blue Jays get their first look at Globe Life Park in Arlington as they take on their rivals, the Texas Rangers, in a three game weekday series. Hyun-Jin Ryu will make his return from a sprained elbow ligament in the series opener, as the Blue Jays will be tasked with taking on one of the league's most dominant starters in Corey Kluber.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has been tearing the cover off the ball lately, as has pushed his batting average to .328 after a spectacular weekend showing against the Oakland Athletics. The Rangers will need to find a way to shut him down if they want to have a chance in this series. On the other side of the scorecard, Rangers outfielder [B}Willie Calhoun[/b] has quietly put together a solid season thus far, surprising many people with eight home runs and a .281 batting average early on.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Slug Their Way To Tenth Straight Win

The Toronto Blue Jays continued swinging their red-hot bats as they launched four homers en route to their tenth straight victory. Randal Grichuk crushed his sixth and seventh home runs of the season and Teoscar Hernandez became the first Blue Jay to crack double digits in the home run category as the Blue Jays handed Rangers ace Corey Kluber his first loss of the season. Cavan Biggio added an important two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to seal the win for the Jays.

Hyun-Jin Ryu was dominant for the Blue Jays in his return from the injured list. Ryu, who had been sidelined with a sprained elbow ligament, scattered four hits over 7 2/3 innings of work, with his only mistake being a solo home run surrendered to Todd Frazier in the eighth inning.

The Rangers would make things interesting, with Joey Gallo launching a 425-foot blast off Blue Jays reliever Jordan Romano to bring the Rangers within two. The Blue Jays would turn the ball over to Ken Giles who would shut the door on the final two batters to lock down his 15th save of the season.

Blue Jays outfielder Billy McKinney, who was called up from Triple-A on May 5th, continues to swing a hot bat for Charlie Montoyo's lineup. McKinney went 3-for-4 out of the nine hole tonight, picking up two doubles and crossing the plate once.

The Blue Jays look to make it eleven straight wins tomorrow evening as they take on the Rangers in the middle game of the three game set. The Blue Jays have yet to suffer a loss in the month of May, and will look to continue that trend.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Rally Against Rangers Bullpen For Win

The Texas Rangers looked to be on their way to snapping the Toronto Blue Jays' ten game win streak until they turned it over to their bullpen, who abruptly blew the lead and eventually lost the game. Reliever Luke Farrell was slapped with the loss for the Rangers after surrendering a two-run RBI single to Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette.

The Rangers got their offence in the early stages of the ballgame, getting to Blue Jays starter Tanner Roark for three runs in the first three innings of action. Danny Santana and Willie Calhoun both went deep for the Rangers, who were silenced after the third inning as Roark settled into the ballgame.

Rangers starter Lance Lynn did a great job of keeping the red-hot Blue Jays lineup off balance allowing two runs on a pair of RBI singles over six innings of work. Farrell would inherit one of Lynn's runners in the seventh inning and allow him to score, putting the finishing touches on a six inning, three-run performance for the former St. Louis Cardinal.

Brandon Drury and Teoscar Hernandez both picked up RBI singles in the winning effort, as the Blue Jays became the first team in their division to crack the 30-win plateau and continue to tear through the month of May.

The Rangers will look to avoid being the victim of a three game sweep tomorrow evening as they look to put an end to the Blue Jays' lengthy winning streak.
