I am once again doing another Boston Celtics dynasty. Thematically this dynasty won't differ much from the last one I did. Instead of focusing on broad idea of winning a championship with a specific team I wanted to focus on two specific players for the Celtics, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Like the previous dynasty I did I'll still maintain control over all 30 teams. Along with that I'll also do reporting on anticipated games, injuries and other events around the league. During the first season all transactions will be the same as those that occurred in real life unless in-game events prevent that from happening.

My goal here is to specifically get Brown and Tatum a championship while they play for the Celtics. Hopefully this one will go a lot longer than my last dynasty.

Will Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown be enough to make the Boston Celtics championship contenders?

In a 108-95 win over the Denver Nuggets last season, then fourth-year swingman Jaylen Marselles Brown scored 21 points while teammate Jayson Christopher Tatum had a team-high 26 points. In the post-game interview Brown described the difference between his and Tatum's game as "fire and ice". The time between that game and when Brown and Tatum were drafted by the Boston Celtics has been quite the journey.

Brown and Tatum were the number three overall picks in the 2016 and 2017 NBA Drafts respectively. Even though they were selected very high in the draft, the Boston Celtics weren't expected lean heavily on either of Brown or Tatum so early in their NBA careers. The reason being is that the team had veterans the team could rely upon while developing players like Brown and Tatum.

In 2016 Brown played behind players like Avery Bradley, Gerald Green and Jae Crowder. Starting only 20 of the 78 games he participated in, Brown averaged 17.2 minutes and 6.6 points per game. During the Celtics' playoff run Brown saw less time on the court as he averaged 12.6 minutes and five points per game.

The following season the Celtics drafted another forward, Tatum. The rookie forward was also not expected to be a big contributor as the Celtics had also signed All-Star forward Gordon Hayward to a 4-year $128M deal. That same offseason the Celtics also traded for guard Kyrie Irving from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Irving and Hayward were intended to be the Celtics top two guys but injuries derailed both of their seasons. Hayward had a gruesome leg injury in his very first game as a Celtic, while Irving's knee issues would lead to him needing season-ending knee surgery. With both of them out of the lineup and the playoffs coming up, the Celtics needed guys to step up and fill the void.

Brown and Tatum ended up leading the team with 18 and 18.5 points per game, respectively, during the team's playoff run that season. Both marks were career highs for the young duo. The Celtics playoff run came to an end in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals as they fell to LeBron James and the Cavaliers.

In the years that followed the Celtics have never missed the playoffs. Tatum and Brown have grown tremendously in those years with the former earning his first All-Star appearance in the 2019-20 season. The one thing that has eluded the young duo and the Celtics organization in that time are a Finals appearance and win. The Celtics current championship drought does not reflect the success the team had in its earlier days.

Between 1956 and 1986 the Celtics had won 16 NBA championships. That period also includes a stretch of eight straight titles behind Hall of Famers head coach Red Auerbach and center Bill Russell. Another Hall of Famer, forward Larry Bird, was pivotal in the two championships the Celtics won during their four consecutive Finals appearances. The Celtics most recent championship team featured two Hall of Famers in Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett along with another potential Hall of Fame player in Paul Pierce.

Suffice to say, Brown and Tatum have a lot of pressure on them to lift the Celtics to another championship. The young duo no longer have veterans like Irving or Hayward to rely on as they are playing for the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets respectively. The veterans that are on the Celtics will now play more of a support role to the blossoming Brown and Tatum.

The Celtics' history of success will loom large as they attempt to bring in players that will compliment Brown and Tatum. Both players have signed max extensions that will keep them with the team for the foreseeable future.The only question that remains is whether or not Brown or Tatum will be able to be the driving force behind the next Celtics championship.
