I wish they would make it so that 1A schools play 1AA schools the week before Labor Day weekend as a preseason game.

The 1AA schools get their money and the 1A schools get an exhibition game

What 1a schools would actually support the idea of paying so much money for a game that doesn't even count, though? The reason they pay the money now is because that one free win actually counts and can be used for bowl eligibility.

Taking those perks away and making it a glorified scrimmage makes it pointless to give these teams millions of dollars to play them. A lot of these power schools would be better off holding full on scrimmages against their scout teams at that point.

that was a stunner to me, was the '97 team even preseason top 15? That was an underdog squad, no studs at the offensive skill positions, maybe they were too boring? If you hate defense, I can understand, but damn, I know I'm biased but that '97 team wouldn't have cracked a top 50 if I was trying to objectively rank the most hated teams
