Tigers Get Back on Winning Track At Colorado
Big plays on D propel Missouri

Coming off their worst loss of the season, the Tigers of Missouri were looking to get back on track against Big 12 North rival Colorado, who was also coming off a tough loss to Kansas State. Both teams jockeying for position in the crowded North behind Kansas State, who Missouri will meet in two weeks in Manhattan.

Missouri came out like a team on a mission, as Terrell Resonno ripped the ball from Darrell Scott on the first play from scrimmage. Sean Weatherspoon would fall on it at the Colorado 16 yard line, and just two plays later Blaine Gabbert would find Andrew Jones for the two yard touchdown.

Mizzou would add to the lead after a Carl Gettis interception on a well overthrown ball by Cody Hawkins. The Tigers would quickly move it down the field capped by a 10 yard pass from Gabbert to Jerrell Jackson for the score and just like that the Tigers were off and running.

But not for long, as the Colorado defense began to show signs of life, while the offense seemed to have figured out how to hold onto the ball. Colorado would pull as close as 4 in the first half before Tanner Mills' 34 yard field goal at the buzzer gave the Tigers a touchdown lead at the break.

Missouri would extend their lead back to 14 on their second possession of the third quarter, as Gabbert and Devion Moore combined to keep the drive alive, and to keep the Colorado defense off balance. The drive was capped by a 3 yard pass from Gabbert to Jackson, his second touchdown catch of the day.

Both defenses would perform well, but the Colorado defense was aided by the Missouri offenses inability to hold onto passes. Six drops were recorded by three of the top four Tiger receivers, but they did enough to hold on to beat the Buffaloes on the road.

The Missouri defense made life hard for
Cody Hawkins all afternoon.

Re: Restoring the Roar: The Missouri Tigers

A Chat with AD Huhn

Well I had planned to blog more on our season since taking over as AD, but I as soon as I stepped into the role I knew there would be no way I could write a weekly blog for everyone. I'll just jump into it.

Missouri has long been a second-class citizen in the Big 12. I've always admired the players and the coaches who have tried to change it, and even when Chase Daniels and company were here this school never truly got the respect it deserved. That's why I took this job, that's why I'm here. That's our goal. Coach Pinkel knows that, and he's done a good job with so many players lost to the NFL and graduation last year.

With that being said, 5-3 will not be acceptable for long here. We've had some big wins, against Nebraska and Oklahoma State, but that Texas game really showed us we really have a long way to go still. We have some big pieces in place, we have some great young talent and I know we will be competing for not only the Big 12 North, but the Big 12 title, and a National Title. I want people to not just respect Missouri, but to fear us when they hear our name.

Blaine Gabbert is only a sophomore, but has shown he has what it takes to compete at a high level in the Big 12. Some of the performances he has put up this season have been amazing. Devion Moore has stepped up since Derrick Washington went down and has proven he will be a big factor in his years to come.

Our starters are young, and as long as they keep progressing and putting up good results our recruiting will continue to better itself, and we will continue to bring in the highest quality recruits. I'm happy with where we are, but I know where we need to go, and I will continue to push the program that way.

Missouri Holds on Despite Late Bear Rally
Defense again steals the show

Missouri, winners of four of their last five set to take November by storm, would first have to pass the Robert Griffin test as the Baylor Bears set to invade Faurot Field and steal a victory against a hot Tiger team.

The first big play was made by the Missouri special teams. After a three and out on their first possession junior Munir Prince put his helmet on Krys Buerck who couldn't hold on to the ball. Jerrell Harrison was in perfect position to dive on it, giving the Tigers the ball at the Baylor 15. Two plays later Blaine Gabbert would find Jerrell Jackson for a 10 yard touchdown and an early lead.

The Missouri defense would step up again in the first quarter as Jaron Baston flattened Robert Griffin inside his own ten. Griffin would lose the ball which would be scooped up by Brian Coulter and returned 7 yards for the score.

Baylor would finally respond as Griffin would find his back Finley on a screen. Finley would break two tackles on his way to the house and cutting the lead to 7. It wouldn't take long for Mizzou to respond, as Gabbert found Danario Alexander on a hook. Alexander ripped through a tackle at the 4 and found the end zone.

Missouri wouldn't be done causing havoc and frustration for Robert Griffin. Griffin would be hit and throw a terrible ball which was picked off by junior corner Kevin Rutland. The ensuing Missouri drive would stall before a first down, but Tanner Mills would hit his second field goal, this time from 38 to extend to lead to 20 at the half.

The second half would see Baylor fight their way back into it, just to see Andrew Jones and Blaine Gabbert take it away on a 14 yard touchdown pass after Baylor had cut the lead in half.

The story of the game was the Missouri defense. Missouri got after wonderkid Robert Griffin all night, sacking him three times, knocking him down 7 more times, and forcing him to turn the ball over two times himself.

Enough Said.
