THUNDERIN' TO A CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
THANKS TO FOUR MISSED FG'S INCLUDING A 46 YARDER IN THE FINAL MINUTE, HERD TAKE C-USA
  • Huntington, WV - It was as expected between Southern Miss and Marshall, a hard fought no room for error type of game. But Marshall did everything in its power to hand Southern Miss the championship. Quarterback Miller for Marshall would throw three second half interceptions but Wright and the Golden Eagles would stall out for fg's and kicker T. Starks who made his first two would go on to miss the next for giving Marshall (10-2) the conference title with a 14-13.

TOP HEADLINES:
  • Navy grabs first 11 win season in school history
  • FCS West upsets Division 1's Western Kentucky
  • Northern Illinois wins OT thriller over Toledo
  • Utah State becomes bowl egilible with win
  • Bowling Green gets to 11 with win

College Football Top 25 Scoreboard:
#12 Navy over Army 31-14
#21 Marshall over Southern Miss 14-13
#24 Buffalo falls Kent 30-0

AUBURN GETS REMATCH:
AUBURN HOPES TO PLAY SPOILER IN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP VS #2 UAB
  • We all know what happened October 4th, it was the last time Auburn lost a game. In fact it was Auburn's only blemish of the season. UAB did what they wanted when they wanted and how they wanted against the Tigers winning 49-3. But now Auburn who is on a seven game winning streak posses experience and just like UAB a great defense. "We feel we match-up well with the Blazers. Eddie White has has success against them and the way our defense is playing now, we feel we are a team that they cant over look." Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. Auburn could very well be playing for a possible BCS Title birth as all three undefeated teams play this weekend. A lot is at stake.
AROUND THE NCAA:
  • Questions to be answered during conference championship week
  • #1 Cal ready after two week hiatus
  • Florida State defense gets first look at GT's Lawrence Jenkins this weekend
  • Blazers looking to clinch third straight BCS Title appearance
  • TCU/Texas prepare for war
  • Navy and Bowling Green cry foul at BCS
  • Nebraska look to complete historic comeback with Big Ten Championship win
  • Brian Kelly looks for second straight Big East Title, ECU in the way
  • Air Force and Fresno looking for first conference championship since 90's
BCS TALK:

  • In the final installment, the BCS hopes to "Get It Right" as the top 3 teams all undefeated play in conference championship games this weekend. Auburn is the lone one loss team who has a chance at reaching the title if they take care of business and Cal falls. The polls are almost identical to last week with a few switches towards the bottom of the poll. Right now the BCS Title would be Cal and UAB but a lot can change by Saturday night.

Top Games for the Conference Championship

#7 TCU (10-2) vs #3 Texas (12-0)

These two teams played almost a month ago with Texas winning 17-10. A score stating otherwise, the longhorns and their second ranked rushing offense dominated TCU controlling the clock and the game. TCU should a little better prepared for that attack. QB B. Burgess for the Horned Frogs needs to be a bit more consistent, he rushed for 80 and threw for almost 200 but was picked off three times against the Longhorns the first time. For the Longhorns they could be 60 minutes away from a championship if they get the same defensive effort from Simpson and company it could be a tough game again for TCU.

#13 Utah (10-2) vs #1 Cal (12-0)

The first time around both teams were 5-0 and were in the college gamedays game of the week. But minutes into the game people questioned why Utah was there and was Cal really legit after the 41-14 beatdown. Well cal was legit and is now the #1 team in the land. For Utah to win they need P. Jones the quarterback to play to the level he's capable of. He's thrown 9 interceptions all year, he threw 6 of them to Cal defensive backs. Utah has the talent as receiver Adam Kennedy is a game breaker. For Cal they need to keep feeding Tim Mason the ball he can take a handoff and score at any moment of a drive, his playmaking ability has help quarterback J. Rodgers and the Cal passing game. With the type of speed they have Utah has to be flawless.

College Gameday Game of the Week

#5 Auburn (11-1) vs #2 UAB (12-0)
Just like Utah, Auburn was blown out in the hyped up first match up between the two teams. "49-3 aint gonna cut it" Auburn's Head coach screemed all week at practice in a video that surfaced on youtube. Because of that Auburn looks like they will be ready for the Blazer attack. With the nations 8th best total defense Auburn will look to slow down Adam Dyks who they had some success in the first game. It was the defense of UAB (#1 in the country) who demolished that attack grabbing 9 sacks and two safeties. Auburn needs Eddie White to get going he is key for the upset.

OTHER NOTABLE GAMES:
BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP

#20 Notre Dame (8-4) vs East Carolina (6-6)
ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

#16 Florida State (10-2) vs #6 Georgia Tech (11-1)
MWC CHAMPIONSHIP

#14 Fresno State (10-2) vs #21 Air Force (10-2)
BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP

#18 Nebraska (7-5) vs #8 Wisconsin (10-2)

GETTIN PHYSICAL!
BLAZERS KNOW AUBURN WILL BE READY THIS TIME AROUND:
  • Atlanta, GA - For the last week and half highlights of UAB's 49-3 thrashing of Auburn have been across the air ways. The Blazers harrassed Auburn up and down the field that October afternoon. But Blazer players know its gonna be a different game this time around. "A lot more is at stake this time around." UAB's sophmore free safety Carl Holycross said. He had a interception a sack as well as a fumble recovery in the first game. "Its pride on the line, a SEC title as well as a possible national championship at stake." The game will be a battle of two top ten defenses in the country. Better believe it will get physical according to head coach Travis Rhatigan. "Auburn has a damn good offensive line, I expect them to be a lot more aggressive especially with the way White has been playing of late. They look really good on film, in fact they look ten times better each week." The Blazers have a chance to clinch their third straight national championship birth. Since Rhatigan has taken over the Blazers are 1-2 in bowl games and 0-2 in BCS games. In a sense you can see the players know what it means to get back and win. "We made that a mission of ours this year." ophomore quarterback Adam Dyks said. A O'Brien finalist Dyks play this year is one of the reason UAB's offense is regarded as one of the toughest to face. "We do a good job of getting our playmakers the rock, we didnt let key injuries hurt us, players just stepped in and assumed the role." You can see UAB in the SEC championship game this Saturday 8pm Eastern on CBS

UAB LOOKS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEC CHAMPIONSHIP VS AUBURN
Atlanta, GA -
Its the rematch edition, the media has had their run of it for the past two weeks now. But there's exception this game will be physical and won on the defensive side of the ball. Both teams sport the conference's top two tail backs. UAB has Cody Gore, Gore a back up grabbed the starting spot back in week two after Matthew Scott's injury. All he's done since was rush for 1,431 yards and 16 touchdowns. Auburn counters with the conference second best rush defense and 8th overall led by the defensive linemen tandem of Greg cooper (20TFL's) and Art Sampson (16 TFL) This defense knocked Bama's Gavin Childress out the game.
UAB has one of the top signal callers in the land with Adam Dyks. The Sophomore leads the conference in yards and touchdown passes. to Counter Auburn brings in the nations #15 ranked pass defense. With 19 interceptions as a whole they are pretty stingy, Dyks will have to watch free safety Travis Jones who has 6 interceptions and also watch for Simpson who has 9 sacks. All American corner Jason Hill #9 will have his hands tied with Travis Jackson who has 15 touchdown receptions on the year other threats include Bill Cooley, Dan Sims and Vincent Jackson. UAB is loaded on offense.
Auburn will have to find a away to block linebackers Timi McCollum and Cortez means and still worry about Tom Cox the nations leading sack man with 20.5. The units ranks #1 overall and in stopping the run. Eddie White, who has had some success in years past was shut down in the early season meeting. But with over 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns Auburn needs to get him the ball. Auburn has not been a hug passing team but spreads the ball around quite well, pass catchers Jason Rhodes, Bill Parker and Ronald Holden have seen the end zone at least five teams and all have 30 catches. If quarterback Jeff Darby can make good decisions and not turn the ball over Auburn can wear the defense down with their no huddle attack. Winner takes all in this one, see you there.

ABOVE THEM ALL

BLAZERS SMOTHER #5 AUBURN
FOR SEC TITLE 38-13

==================
ASSOCIATED PRESS
==================

Atlanta, GA - The Memo was out, the 2014 SEC Championship had more than a conference title on the line, for UAB they were trying to clinch a trip to their third straight National Championship. For Auburn it was to exact revenge on a 49-3 defeat by the hands of UAB earlier in the season. Both sides had their war with words the media set the tone with the constant highlights. The stage was set.

For the most part the fans got what they paid for, a hard hitting first half that saw big plays missed by inches and stale mates that would make any other team give in. After the first quarter Auburn held on toa 7-3 lead after Darby averted a sack finding Rhodes in the back of the end zone wide open for the score. Auburn had did what they failed to do in the first game and that was to score a touchdown.
Adam Dyks answered though, the sophomore quarterback looked like a wily old vet with his non-chalant style of play after back to back three and outs he would find receiver Dan Sims on a quick hitter and Sims would do the rest igniting the Georgia Dome crowd for a 41-yard score. Dyks would perhaps open the game up as the Blazers stole all the momentum heading into the half. With Auburn up 13-10 after two 50+ yard field goals, Dyks engineered a perfect 2:00 minute drill it was actually :57 seconds left, two quick passes then saw him hit a streaking Bill Cooley for a 57 yard score to end the half and put UAB up 17-13.
--
(DYKS HAD GREAT PROTECTION ALL NIGHT THROWING THREE TOUCHDOWNS, TWO TO UP AND COMING STAR BILL COOLEY)

The mid way point saw a very even game statistically, but it was UAB who started to get a edge on defense. Auburn's Darby was taking a beating in that first half. He'd been sacked three times and hurried more. One thing was for sure Eddie White was a non factor as Rhatigan opened the flood gates to start the second half.

Three straight plays saw three straight tackles for a loss or sack to open the third quarter and after the sack which was by Tom Cox giving him a tie for the school record with 22.5 sacks Darby was in obvious pain rolling on the ground. He would be knocked out for the rest of the game with broken ribs.
The Flood gates were now open. Dyks tossed his third touchdown pass of the night and second to Bill Cooley giving UAB the 24-13 lead.
--
(MCCOLLUM AND HOLYCROSS SET THE TONE EARLY IN THE THIRD QUARTER WITH BIG TIME HITS)

The defense did not let up, Archie came in to backup Darby and received even more pressure, Timi McCollum, Carl Holycross and K. Seals would sack the young signal caller knocking him out the game. The Blazers defense was active all night celebrating and taunting at times and the intimidation really set in for Auburn.

Up 24-13 heading into the fourth the Blazers elected to try and wear down Auburn's defense with powerful runs from Cody Gore who went over the 1,500 yard mark during the game. He would get into the end zone on runs of 3 and 1 yard to extend UAB's lead.
The celebration was on as coach Travis Rhatigan got splashed with gatorade with still six minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Immediately after defense end Tom Cox would break the single season school record for sacks when he buried his helmet right in the chest of third string quarterback V. Smiley. The Blazers jumped around in jubilant fashion as that was seemingly the explanation point to cap off the win.
--
(THE BLAZERS CELEBRATED ALL NIGHT TAUNTING THE TIGERS BIG HIT AFTER BIG HIT)

UAB held Auburn to 143 total yards and just 33 yards in the second half. The recorded 11 sacks led by Timi McCollum and Tom Cox who both grabbed three. Adam Dyks was nearly flawless he was just 10-13 but for 228 yards and three scores with no picks. A dominating win over the #5 team in the country has all but guaranteed them a spot in the national championship game. Both #1 Cal and #3 Texas won conference games but Cal Dominated and Texas Struggled. But nonetheless all three teams will be nervously awaiting the verdict tomorrow evening for the BCS Selection Show.

BOX SCORE:
UAB 38 - Auburn 13

(SENIOR DEFENSIVE END TOM COX BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD RECORDING HIS 23.5 SACK OF THE YEAR, HE IS CURRENTLY TIED FOR THE NCAA RECORD WITH ONE GAME REMAINING, HE CAN POSSIBLY DO IT IN THE BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME)

WHOOPED!!!!
BLAZERS MAKE STRONG CASE FOR BCS TITLE
  • Atlanta, GA - When it was all said and done #2 UAB took #5 Auburn to the woodshed. 11 sacks, 8 yards rushing, 4-10 on third downs and most importantly only 33 yards given up in the second half. "That's what a number 1 defense does." Head Coach Travis Rhatigan said after winning his second SEC Championship in as many years. The performance was so dominant that expect believe the Blazers may jump Cal for the #1 spot. Cal had a very dominating performance as well over #13 Utah but hey this is the SEC your talking about. Expect the Blazers to head to their 3rd straight title game and expect them to finally be favored. Defense Wins Championships
TOP HEADLINES:
  • BCS in Flux as all three undefeated teams win
  • Notre Dame win's second straight Big East title
  • Jenkins gets Yellow Jackets passed tough Seminoles for ACC title
  • #1 Cal hangs 51 on Utes at Sun Devil Stadium
  • MWC Championship a success at Mile Hile, Air Force grabs first crown since the 90's
  • Husker's magic runs out as Wisconsin wins Big Ten
  • Russ and Longhorns stave off TCU to take Big 12
Conference Championship Scoreboard:
  • Cal over Utah 51-13
  • Air Force over Fresno State 41-35
  • Notre Dame over East Carolina 41-7
  • Georgia Tech over Florida State 37-35
  • Wisconsin over Nebraska 38-17
  • Texas over TCU 31-23
  • UAB over Auburn 38-13

Re: "Dragon Breath" A UAB Dynasty (NCAA12)

BCS SELECTION SHOW
Sunday Dec 14, 2014

--
#1 VS #2
UAB TO FACE CAL FOR THE TITLE
  • ESPN STUDIOS - It will be for all the marbles on January 9th in Glendale, Arizona as UAB makes it's third straight appearance in the BCS Championship game. This time around they will be the favorites as they surpassed Cal for the #1 ranking in the land. Cal is selected after finishing the regular season in all three polls as #1 before blasting the Utah Utes in the Pac-12 Championship in the conference's first year at a neutral site. This should be one for the ages as both teams look to grab their first ever National Championship in the BCS era.
BCS BOWL BOWL TEAMS PICKED
  • After the BCS contract expired last off-season, the negotiations picked back up to the tune of dropping automatic bids to help all teams get a fair chance at the BCS games. While some teams will always feel left out, the BCS new rule change allows for the top 10 teams in the BCS to go to BCS bowls games. The first year seemed to be a success with the exception of Oregon (9-3) being in the top ten. Here are this years BCS Bowl Games.
ROSE BOWL- JAN 2ND, 2015 5PM

#3 TEXAS (13-0) VS #4 IOWA (11-1)

ALL STATE SUGAR BOWL- JAN 2ND, 2015 8PM

#7 OKLAHOMA (10-2) VS #8 AUBURN (11-2)

DISCOVER ORANGE BOWL- JAN 3RD, 2015 8PM

#5 GEORGIA TECH (12-1) VS #6 WISCONSIN (11-2)

TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL- JAN 4TH, 2015 8PM

#9 OREGON (9-3) VS #10 NAVY (11-1)

MUST SEE BOWL GAMES-

LAS VEGAS BOWL -
DEC 22ND, 2014 8PM

USC (6-6) vs #16 AIR FORCE (11-2)

  • Air Force is a team crying wolf, they won 11 games and they won their conference, but it took them all season to get ranked, although SC is a middle of the road team a win against the Trojans can go a long way for the Falcons and their program.
MUSIC CITY BOWL - DEC 27TH, 2014 8:30PM

FLORIDA (7-5) VS CLEMSON (7-5)

  • There have been rumors for the past couple of seasons that Clemson was on the verge of joining the SEC, but down years have nulled the process. For Florida they have a chance at a winning season for the first time in a few seasons. Both School come in with first year coaches trying to turn around the prgrams, this could also be a SEC East conference game in the future
CHICK-FIL-A BOWL - DEC 31ST, 2014 7:30PM

ALABAMA (7-5) VS #21 FLORIDA STATE (10-3)

  • Unfamiliar territory for both teams. For Alabama this is a lost season they are trying to turn around and finish strong, with the way they fought back and the recruiting class coming in a win will be that more motivation. The Seminoles are just happy to be in a meaningful bowl. At times looking like Title contenders the Seminoles can deem this season a success with a win.
CAPITAL ONE BOWL - JAN 1ST, 2015 1PM

#11 LSU (9-3) NEBRASKA (7-6)

  • Nebraska is another one of those teams with a first year head coach. It showed early on as they lost their first five games of the season only to win 7 straight and clinch a birth in the Big Ten Championship. Recruiting has been going well for the Huskers too. A win can steer this program in the right direction. For LSU they missed a big opportunity to take the SEC West this year. With Bama having a down year this was their year, but a embarrassing loss to Idaho at home and then Auburn the Tigers are just trying to finish this season and get ready for the next.

RYAN RUSS WINS HEISMAN

Associated Press

NEW YORK --In a shocker Ryan Russ wins the 2014 Heisman Memorial Trophy. He became the third tailback to win the award for Texas and the first since Rickey Williams won it in 1998. In a year of shocking moments for the Longhorns who went 13-0 and got left out of the BCS National Title game they somewhat feel this caps off a successful season.
The tough-running tailback turned tearful after winning the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in the closest vote in the award's 80-year history. Next, he'll try to lead the most storied program in Texas to their first Rose Bowl win since Vince Young. They face the #4 Hawkeye's.

Russ finished 28 points ahead of Georgia Tech running back Lawrence Jenkins. Jenkins, who rushed for 172 yards against the Seminoles in the ACC Championship last weekend was the clear cut favorite. But the numbers came into effect. Jenkins rushed for 2,008 yards and 25 touchdowns for the 12-1 Yellow Jackets, while Russ rushed for 1,753 yards and 20 touchdowns but it was the Longhorns sophomore backup running back and most likely favorite for next year Sam Pace who voters kept bringing up. Pace rushed for 1,511 yards and 13 touchdowns taking carries away from Russ. Most asked what if Russ were to get all those carries?

Nonetheless The sturdy, 225-pound Russ took a moment to get composed before starting his speech. Dressed in a burnt orange suit black pinstripes, his voice wavered throughout.
"I'm a little overwhelmed right now," he said. "I'm just so excited to bring Texas the Heisman. So many people to thanks including my former coach Mack Brown who recruited me and told me I would be great one day. But my offensive line, my new head coach and my under study Sam Pace I cant thank them more. Finally my parents for believing in me letting me play the game I love and following me on this journey."

Here's how the vote broke down:
  1. Ryan Russ Texas (2,120)
  2. Lawrence Jenkins GT (2,098)
  3. Jason Hall Purdue (1,510)
  4. John Williams BC (988)
  5. Chris Neal OU (572)

Re: "Dragon Breath" A UAB Dynasty (NCAA12)

Orlando, FL - The NCAA anounced its AP offensive and Defensive players of the year along with the coveted awards and All Americans. UAB and Texas both got five on the first team All American list while the Blazers led the nation with 8 overall selections on the first and second teams.Purdue's Jason Hall was named first team quarterback and is just four touchdown passes from tying the NCAA mark for touchdowns in season, he currently has four and will have a chance in two weeks to break that mark. UAB's Tom Cox who was named AP defensive player of the year needs only one sack to break Terrell Suggs single season mark for sacks, you can see him try to complete that task against Cal on January 9th in the BCS National Championship.
