WEEK 13

#6 (9-1) VS #24 (8-2)

BRONCOS WIN STREAK MOVES TO 10!!!

GAME RECAP

Since the Broncos loss in Week 1 in which Joe Southwick threw 4 INT, the Senior QB has turned his season around playing like one of the nations best and will end up in the Boise State records books, as he looks to finish with the most passing yards in a season as well as most TD's in a season, as he now has 3706 yards and 38 TD's after today's game. Here is what happened.

BSU got on the scoreboard early as Southwick lead the team down the field before handing the ball off on a WR sweep to M. Miller for the 6 yd TD run (7-0). Then 2 minutes later it was Southwick again finding FB C. Bertoli for a 3 yd screen pass to put the Broncos up (14-0).

SDSU would battle back as they capped off a 88 yard drive with a 1 yd run by C. Young (14-7), but Southwick made quick work of the Aztec secondary finding G. Linehan for a 75 yard TD bomb. (21-7).

The Aztecs however had upset on their mind and came back scoring 10 straight points to finish out he half down (21-17).

SDSU would get the ball to start the 2nd half and score again as A. Dingwell hit E. Ruffin on a 20 yd score to put the Aztecs up (24-21), but Southwick was quick to answer. First he hit Kirby Moore on a 21 yd score in the 3rd Quarter and then in the 4th found Matt Miller for a 7 yd score as the Broncos held on for their 10th victory, adding a Top-25 win to their resume, putting themselves in a position to climb the rankings ladder once again.

FINAL SCORE BSU-35 SDSU-24

AROUND THE NATION WEEK 13 RECAP

#1 NO MORE

UCLA opened some eyes starting the season 3-0 with non-conference wins over Nevada and Nebraska and Air Force on the road. Then they beat Utah and Cal before knocking off Stanford and Oregon to earn the #1 ranking in both the coaches and media polls. The Bruins then went on to continue their winning ways with victories over Washington (in the Top-10) as well as Colorado and Arizona. With just 2 games left in the year, it looked like the Bruins would be playing for a National Title if they could get by #4 USC in Week 15.

However that was their mistake as they over looked (5-5) Arizona State and ended up coming up short in a 21-14 loss on Saturday. With the loss UCLA drops to #12 in the polls.

UCLA however wasn't the only team looking head, as #4 USC also got caught looking toward that Week 15 matchup and lost to Colorado (42-20) as they fall from #4 to #16

With both teams losing, next week's National Championship Title implications are out the door, but USC can still look to tie UCLA in the Pac-12 South and still look forward to a Rose Bowl berth.

A LOOK AT THE NEW TOP-3

The Gamecock$ are now #1 and with wins over Georgia in Week 2, as well as Top-25 wins over Tennessee, Missouri, and Florida, a victory over #23 Clemson in Week 15 will give us a amazing SEC Title game against most likey #3 TAMU which will decide the who plays for the National Title.

11 straight wins has the Buckeyes sitting firmly in the #2 spot. However (7-4) Michigan would like nothing better then to knock off their most hated rival keeping them from a National Title game.

Only a 30-27 loss in OT is what is keeping the Aggies from being #1 in the country right now. They proved that this week with a 38-0 victory over LSU. Now they need to get past #20 Mizzou in Week 15 and then take care of business in the SEC Title game and they will have that #1 spot back.

BOISE STATE IS #4!!!!

With the Broncos 10th victory in a row, Boise State has quietly moved their way back into National Title talks, as they move up from #6 to #4. With the Top-3 all having tough matchups in either Week 15 or Conference Title games, the Broncos could finish the year 12-1 and find themselves in the Top-2 or even #1.

Having Washington win yet again and move up to #7 is helping the cause and with a victory over WSU next week and then a Pac-12 Title, the Huskies could actually help the Broncos even more.

WEEK 15

SOLDOUT CROWD CHEERS ON #11

GAME RECAP

At 6-5 and 5-4 in the MWC, the Lobos were looking to do 2 things today.. #1 Upset the Broncos and keep them from a chance at a Top-5 finish and #2 earn win #7 and finish above .500 in the conference earning them a better bowl option. However Joe Southwick and company planned to make neither of those happen.

The Broncos came into the game with the #1 scoring Offense, the most Offensive yards in the nation and the nation's best passing attack. Afterwards all 3 of those stats were safe as well as a school record broken.

Well Kellen Moore's name is all over the Boise State record book for career #'s, one stat he didn't hold was that of most passing yards in a season. Ryan Dinwiddie earned that record with 4, 031 in 2003. However today that name has been replaced by Joe Southwick.

BSU got on the scoreboard first behind a 8 yd TD run by D. Thomas, but the Lobs answered back making it (17-7) with 3 minutes to play in the half. Southwick hower went to work finding Matt Miller for a 25 yd score to make it (17-14) at the half.

Then in the 3rd Quarter it was Southwick to Miller again (4 yds) (21-17), and then Thomas again (2 yds) to make it (28-17). With the Defense shutting out the Lobos again and again, it was Southwick again in the 4th quarter throwing his 3rd score of the day hitting K. Moore for a 21 yd score as the Broncos took care of business.

FINAL SCORE BSU-35 UNM-17

Coach Dezaron
Quote:
I am so proud of the guys today. Our Defense stepped up huge in the 2nd half shutting them down and our Offense took care of business. Joe had another great day and I am so proud of the season he has had. Getting his name in the record books is a great accomplishment.
KEY PLAYERS

WR M. Miller-6 rec 103 yds 2 TD

WEEK 14 AROUND THE NATION RECAP

UPSET CITY

Week 14 provided to massive upsets, as #2 Ohio State falls 42-33 to unranked Michigan. With the loss, the Buckeyes, National Title dreams are over as they fall to #11, well Michigan moves into the Top-25 at #18. These 2 teams will rematch in 2 weeks in the Big Ten Title game with the winner going to the Rose Bowl.

The Buckeyes were not the only team to see their National Title dreams disappear in Week 14. The #3 Texas A&M Aggies also went down the road of defeat as they lost 24-22 to #20 Missouri. With the loss not only did TAMU lose a BCS bid, but they also lost their spot in the SEC title game, as Alabama will now face South Carolina after defeating Auburn 34-20.

#2 IN THE NATION!!!!

The only thing standing between the Broncos and a National Title game is a rematch with Fresno State in the MWC Championship game. A win and the Broncos will make history. Fresno State (9-3/ 8-2 MWC) is coming off a 31-10 win over San Jose State and would like nothing less then handing the Broncos what would be by far the worse loss in school history.

Coach Dezaron
Quote:
I can't imagine what a loss to Fresno would do to the city of Boise, all of our fans across the country and our team. To see the little guy finally take the big stage and battle the giant, is why the playoff format has been tossed back and forth for so long. Obviously there will always be certain college fans and reporters who still feel like a National Title game should always be a team from one of the BCS conferences like the ACC,SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 or Pac-12, but the reality is those conferences are not big enough to have every best team in the country in them unless you do total conference realignment. I am excited for this team. BSU has proven they can win on the big stage, and I believe they can do it again

OTHER NOTEABLE TOP-25 GAMES

#6 Notre Dame fell to #8 Stanford this week 21-10. With the loss the Irish fall to #16 and are now 8-4. With the win, the Cardinals jump to #4 in the nation, however win UCLA's 30-27 win in OT over USC and Washignton's 41-16 win over WSU, Stanford will not be in the Pac-12 title game, thus leaving them on the outside looking in for a Rose Bowl berth.

With their victories, UCLA moves back to #10 well the Washington is now #5 in the nation. They will face each other in the Pac-12 Title game to decide who goes to the Rose Bowl to face the winner of Ohio State and Michigan.

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHUPS

#2 BOISE STATE (11-1) VS FRESNO STATE (9-3)

#7 ALABAMA (9-3) VS #1 SOUTH CAROLINA (12-0)

UCONN (7-5) VS #22 CINCINNATI (11-1)

#5 WASHINGTON (10-2) VS #10 UCLA (11-1)

#15 FSU (9-3) VS #13 BC (9-3)

*Should be noted that Virginia Tech currently is #3 in the BCS standings but like Stanford did not make it into their conference title game, thus limiting their chance to jump over Boise State in the final vote.

#18 MICHIGAN (8-4) VS #8 OHIO STATE (11-1)

TULSA (9-3) VS #11 TEXAS (9-3)

TOLEDO (8-4) VS WESTERN MICHIGAN (9-4)

MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

GAME PREVIEW

Never has there been more on the line for the Boise State Broncos. Well some feel that the Broncos would've played for a National Title in 2010 had they not lost in OT to Nevada on Kyle Broztman's missed Field Goal, there is no wondering this time. A win over Fresno State and the Broncos are in the National Title game. A loss would send the Broncos back to Las Vegas for yet another year.

The same could be said for Fresno State. With just 3 loss's to their name including the 48-23 loss to the Broncos at home as well as a 59-24 loss to Texas A&M, the Bulldogs are playing for a spot in the Fiesta Bowl, well a loss would most likely send them to Las Vegas to play Arizona.

Boise State comes into the game with the #1 rated Passing Offense (4593 yds) in the nation, the #1 Overall Offense (8243 yds) and are #1 in scoring at (38.6 PPG). The Bulldogs however are not far behind as they rank #8 in Total Offense (6674 yds), are #4 in Passing (3267 yds) and are tied at #17 in scoring (31.3 PPG). Well BSU does their scoring threw the air (47 TD's), FS does theirs on the ground (29 rushing TD's, #2 in the nation).

So hold onto your seats this could be a high scoring affair...

GAME RECAP

Fresno State would score first on a M. Waller 2 yd TD run to make it (7-0), but the Broncos would answer with 4 minutes to play in the 1st Quarter as Joe Southwick would find D. Thomas out of the backfield on a 8 yd scoring pass. (7-7).

Both teams would trade FG's to start the 2nd Quarter to make it (10-10), but it was Southwick again finding SR WR G. Boldwijn on scoring strikes of (16 and 5 yds) to put the Broncos up (24-10) at the half.

Fresno would hold the Broncos on the opening possession of the 2nd half and find the endzone on D. Carr to J. Harper 5 yd score to cut the lead to (24-17), but again Southwick would have a answer this time hitting Kirby Moore for a 8 yd score (31-17).

Even down by 2 scores, Fresno didn't abandon the running game, as M. Waller scores his 2nd TD of the game from 5 yds out to cut it to a 1 score lead (31-24) with 10 minutes to play in the game.

However the Bronco "D" would answer the call forcing 2 fumbles and the Bronco running attack would do just enough to overcome 3 missed Field Goals by D. Goodale to keep the Bulldogs from tying the game, as the Broncos pulled out the victory and are going to play for a National Title!!!!

FINAL SCORE BSU-31 FS-24

Coach Dezaron-
Quote:
At this point it's a wait and see. It's a given if South Carolina beats Alabama in the SEC title game, they will be our opponent, but a loss would leave the BCS selection committee scrambling. Would #3 Virginia Tech move into the spot even though they are not playing in the ACC Title game? Would Alabama get in with 3 loss's? Or what about a possible rematch with Washington. With a win over UCLA in the Pac-12 Title game, the Huskies could very well, move into the #2 spot with a South Carolina loss.
KEY PLAYERS

BOWL MATCHUPS

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

They ended the 2012 season against each other with Boise State winning the Las Vegas Bowl 28-26, then they started the 2013 season against each other with Washington getting it's revenge in 52-14 beatdown in Seattle opening up the new Husky stadium.

With Alabama beating undefeated South Carolina in the SEC Title game, and the Huskies defeating UCLA in the Pac-12 Title game, Washington jumped from #5 to #2 in both the Coaches Poll and more importantly the BCS Poll, to earn a rematch with the Broncos in a much more important game, the National Championship.

Washington is no stranger to winning championships. This year's Pac-12 crown marks their 16th Conference Title but 1st since 2000. They also have had a share of at least 4 National Titles including 1990 and 1991 as well as 1960 and 1984.
