Re: Teamwork, a Tradition | Navy Midshipmen Dynasty

Mid-Season Recap from coach Richard Moore

navysports.com: How are you doing today Mr. Moore?

Richard Moore: I am doing pretty well if I say so myself, I am very excited about how the team is performing.

navysports.com: I bet you are! Navy is sitting at 7-2 and got a huge win against Notre Dame and ended Navy's 5 game losing streak to them. What are you doing to make these guys play the way they're playing?

Richard Moore: I always tell my players, you must be disciplined and confident. If you're disciplined and do what you need to do and it still doesn't go your way, well there is nothing you can do about it. If you are confident you will be able to play a lot better on the field because you're telling yourself that I am a great player.

navysports.com: What are some surprises and disappointments that you've come across this season coach Moore?

Richard Moore: A surprise is that we are currently leading the NCAA in rushing yards and are tied for rushing TD's. B-back Chris Swain has been having a phenomenal season as he is close to eclipsing 800 yards on the season. On the other hand my biggest disappointment has to be my defense. Sure I have Daniel Gonzales in the running for the Best LB award, and other awards but the defense as a unit has already surrendered over 4000 yards. The only reason we have been able to win games is because our offense has been stellar this season. All in all I am damned proud of this team and that we are sitting at 7-2.

navysports.com: How do you feel about the upcoming game against Brigham Young?

Richard Moore: It's going to be a challenge no doubt. They have dual threat quarterback, Taysom Hill who is a very agile athlete. They have a stout defense that pretty much shuts down the run game and creates pressure when the quarterback drops back. It's going to be a tough match up for us.

navysports.com: Thank you for your time coach Moore. Good luck against the Cougars! Go Navy!

Re: Teamwork, a Tradition | Navy Midshipmen Dynasty

Provo, UT-- The Midshipmen are coming to Utah with a 3 game wining streak to take on the Brigham Young Cougars. The Cougars have an electric dual-threat quarterback in Taysom Hill who has over 500 yards rushing on the ground and over 900 yards through the air. The Cougars look to rely on Senior running back Jamaal Williams who has over 1000 yards on the ground on the season. The Cougars run a 3-4 defense and their linebackers truly locate the ball carrier and bring him to the ground. Their defense is led by Sione Takitaki who has 13 tackles for loss on the season and 32 assisted tackles. He is always around the ball.

The Midshipmen are coming into the game with over 3000 yards on the ground and they do share the ball. But the man in charge has been B-back Chris Swain, who has 151 carries for 786 yards. Quarterback Keenan Reynolds has returned from his injury and made an immediate impact when the Midshipmen played Notre Dame and he looks to do the same against this stout BYU defense. Navy's defense is led by Daniel Gonzales. Gonzales is in the running for several linebacker awards, here is what he had to say about that.

Daniel Gonzales: You know it is always good to be recognized for your skills. But I'm just here to play football. If I do win an award that would be great, if not, then hey I won't lose any sleep at night. I just like playing football with my team and that's what I'm doing.

Humble words from Mr. Gonzales. He leads the team in a whopping 61 solo tackles and 12 tackles for loss.

Re: Teamwork, a Tradition | Navy Midshipmen Dynasty

Navy Invades Provo and Leaves Wiith a 38-21 Victory

The Midshipmen took the field with an attitude in Provo. They knew that BYU was going to be a tough challenge for them but they weren't going to back down. Both teams exchanged punts and BYU's Jamaal Williams gave the game its first points by scoring from 5 yards out to make it 7-0. Navy's next possession B-back Chris Swain faked the handoff he took a huge hit and was sidelined for the rest of the game due to concussion symptoms. Back up B-back Quentin Ezell came into the game and he looked like a monster on the field. Ezell capped off the drive with an 11 yard Td run. Now here comes Navy's defense who had issues stopping the run unloaded hit after hit after hit on the Cougars forcing three fumbles throughout the game. BYU was never able to recover from those turnovers and the Midshipmen capitalized on those turnovers to run to a 38-21 victory.

Stats: Q. Ezell 25 Car, 111 Yds, 2 TD's
K. Reynolds 4-9 88 Yds, 2 Td's, 1Int, 12 Car, 108 Yds
